iFi Zen Stream: Setup, Tips, Tricks...
Nov 10, 2023 at 12:30 PM Post #1,411 of 1,569
Hello
I'm facing a persistent problem with my Zen Stream and need assistance. Despite using an ethernet connection, I've been experiencing network dropouts, indicated by a red light on the left. To address this, I updated the firmware to version 2.32.9.

When streaming music via Roon, I experience brief audio cut-outs that activate the "mute" relay on my Yggy. This disruption occurs with both local files and Qobuz streaming, and it's consistent regardless of the file's bit depth or other variables. The issue arises whether I'm in the All-In-One or "Roon only" mode.

Additionally, I cannot switch off the WiFi. Even after setting "Wireless Network" to off, which temporarily disconnects from Roon, the WiFi turns back on as soon as I check the Network settings.

I've confirmed that the problem isn't with the Roon core, as other connected devices are functioning fine. As a potential fix, I'm trying to increase the "audio buffer size" and "buffer before play" settings. I'll evaluate this solution over the next few days to see if it resolves the issue. Edit: It did not work
I've experienced the same thing using Roon. It started a few months ago after a Roon update. Make sure you've selected the maximums on the buffer settings. The other thing I've found is that USB is much more stable than Coax.

It's concerning that your ZS doesn't retain your WiFi setting change. I suggest you consider doing a full factory reset. Let us know how it goes!!

As @rwelles said a full factory reset may be the ticket.

Please give a support ticket and let them know you may need to do a full reset then update to the latest version.

Hope this helps,

Cheers!!

(deleted, redundant since iFi responded)

edit: @iFi audio , the "Submit a Ticket" link on the support site currently returns this error:

Is there a way to stream Amazon HD music with the IFI stream yet?

@iFi audio
Hi, I would like to know why current firmware for the iFi Zen Stream are NOT available on the iFi repository? For most of the other iFi products they are available.
I took me 16 hours (yes 16 hours) to get the menu to get firmware check and upgrade. After one fail during downloading I finally succeed and now all is fine.
This was due to the fact that the Zen Stream was shipped with a firmware dated august 2021 and the apps on iPad was instantaneously crashing at launch.
It would really be much better as there is an USB-C port dedicated to upgrade !
Thanks for your reply.

I can see if that possibility exists, but I do know the USB-C system upgrade port on the rear is mainly used for complete resetting of the unit, and is at the moment a Windows-only option.

Thanks for the suggestion, I will pass it on.

Cheers!!

@iFi audio so when you release a new version of the apps please ensure it's compatible with ALL existing firmware versions.
It happened that the firmware on the unit I bought was not compatible...
Sure thing!

Can you explain a bit clearer what happened to you? The Zen Stream uses the Stream-iFi app and only that app, from there all updates the the ZS are done from the "check for updates" screen and also installed from there.

Thanks,

Cheers!!

Well it's very simple.
I got a unit with a 2021 firmware.
Trying to connect to 192.168.211.1 through any browser leads to inconsistent black screens after 5 sec or 5 minutes totaly random and never reach the setup menu.
Trying to use the iOS apps leads to crash of the apps immediately.
Trying to connect to the app through Android mobile is impossible as your app is no longer maintained on Android V13.
And YES I was on AIO mode...
I finally reached the firmware upgrade menu after hours of tentatives with Opera browser under an old Mac running Catalina.
To be honest if I would not have been living in Cambodia (I got the unit from a French friend who brought it to me when he was travelling) I had return the unit straight away after one hour of unsuccessful attempts. I was really pissed of.
No FAQ, no support DIY. Lucky me to be a geek for 20 years....

Sorry, you had so many issues connecting. When you initially had this issue did you file a support ticket with us?

Cheers!!

No, but what would you recommend?
Hard reset to factory.? I did it around 10 times.
iPad crashes
Android mobile apps not working on Android 13
browser to 192.168.211.1 randomly connecting
Any other suggestions?
Once again, as soon as the new firmware was installed, everything went back as what you said on the "user manual."
Once again, a repository with current firmware and a download with a self-extracting USB key would be so easy. There is a USB port on the unit.
What is the use of this port, then?
Cheers

Hi,
I'm currently testing the SMSL SU-1 DAC. It sounds wonderful, but...
When I switch songs from Tidal, it always cuts off the first second or so. Very frustrating and kills the entire musical experience. This happens on coaxial. On USB it is less apparent, but still exists.
My streamer is IFI Zen Stream. Can something be done about it, any ideas?
I also own SMSL SU-9n and it works perfect with this streamer. Nothing similar happens.
