iFi Zen Stream: Setup, Tips, Tricks...
Jul 10, 2023 at 12:07 PM Post #1,082 of 1,642
I tried to install the new Android software. Now I have a brick with two red lights and I can't get the hot spot to activate so I can get things going again. Any ideas? I've had a pretty problem free experience so far but this one has me stumped. Cycling power and using the reset button don't help. The install app on my phone wants the hotspot in order connect for the update.
Thanks,
John

Hey Bubba

Unfortunately, this update comes too late for me.
I primarily invested in the Zen Stream because of Chromecast, which never materialised, and I doubt ever will.
I have been using the ZS with Tidal Connect exclusively, because it sounded best and was most reliable. I could not easily or reliably play my own files, nor use You Tube Music or Amazon.

I have been testing the Wiim Pro for a week now. I tested one of these devices before Christmas too. It worked perfectly, but was noticeably inferior sonically to the ZS, so I returned it. I bought it again mainly for Chromecast & You Tube where I was not worried about SQ. Well....blow me down. Not sure what happened, but I now cannot tell the Wiim apart from the ZS sonically. Granted, I am using an audiophile power supply, but was on the ZS as well. I am also passing both through my Audio-GD Di-20 before hooking up with DAC using I2S.

I have been putting this through its paces, critically to find some way the ZS was superior. I dont need the USB output, and today I disconnected the ZS from the system to be moved on. The Wiim does everything I want, including playing Tidal Connect, Amazon Music, You Tube Music, Qobuz and my own files reliably & glitch free! It also has a TOS input which I can run my Puffin phono stage through. Oh...and it runs cool.....

Cheers, and thanks for all your help in the past!

Vic
What power supply do you happen to be using on the Wiim Pro? Much thanks in advance?

Don't know if this is helpful but a long time ago I was told a linear power supply was best for the Mini, I have not gotten the pro yet.

Good luck!

Cheers!!

Are you currently using one on the mini?
No, I did and it does indeed make a small difference in the sound. Using optical out it was a bit less "Bright" to my ears.

I currently use it in an outdoor setup so it's not as critical there, so normal USB adapter for now.

Cheers!!

Came back to the streamer after about an hour and the right side red light was dark and I was able to turn on the hot spot. Finished the install and I'm back on line. Sorry for the false alarm. Just needed to step away for a while.
I have the same issue, it doesn't even work on LAN and I can't get into the menu even on AIO mode, don't know what to do, I tried factory restoring it and it doesn't work.

Thank you I really appreciate it, I was able to get it going with instructions you posted here before, thankfully it's back on and on the most recent firmware, thanks for all you do.
