No luck when running as admin either, still says there's no device connected. No downgrade possible as a result.
And yes, I did unplug the device multiple times. No external power supply, it works on USB alone.

My main source is an Apple Iphone, AAC, and music sourced from YouTube. I have two options for playback. So which one if anyone am I getting a better sound quality play back, an iFi Zen Blue, obviously over BT, or with my iPhone hard lined with 15 foot USB cable? Both plugged directly into the back of my Peachtree Nova300?

Does anyone know what the output impedance is on the Zen Can? Just curious and couldn't find it on the iFi website.

It's below 1Ω :)

I honestly have no idea, but our ZEN Blue features quite the wireless circuit and we got reports that it sounds surprisingly good as a wireless device. If I were you, I'd probably use wireless for convenience :)

Thank you. I have tried both and it is certainly close enough which gives the nod to convenience of wireless especially at such a low quality transmission from YouTube.

Sure, anytime!

I don't think you will have any benefit, because your Sony amplifier has no balanced inputs.

That's correct, thanks!

I received the following answer from iFi a couple of days ago.

Copying the relevant part of the answer:

"From what I am aware the popping is an issue with MQA on a lot of DACs and like you said I believe it is only at the beginning of songs.

I personally have the pop on my unit when using MQA on tidal and on the metal playlist as well."
Hi there

Disclaimer: I LOVE THIS DAC. I am finding the sound to be clean without cropping into analytical. I am wondering if support was able to give a user friendly but concrete (like they know exactly why) reason as to WHY this clicking occurs on sample change, and, more importantly if they were able to provide any details as to what we can do to manage the click without disabling any settings?

Thank you!

Although I have nothing else to say on top of our support's input, you can try a firmware with MQA disabled and see if that helps :)

Thanks - I personally reached out to support for a more concrete answer. Its been 4 days and I have heard nothing, so still waiting. Disabling MQA is not palatable, as it is one of the reasons I bought the DAC (see above - "without disabling settings.")

Ultimately, there is a cause that can be explained. Not to be a pain, but factually speaking the answer provided from support is ambiguous and is an example of "Attribute Substitution" (When someone tries to answer a difficult question, they may actually answer a related but different question, without realizing that a substitution has taken place - example, "Lots of others DACs experience the click" does not answer why THIS one does, and more importantly, how to manage it.)

(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Attribute_substitution#:~:text=Attribute substitution, also known as,cognitive biases and perceptual illusions.&text=This substitution is thought of,more self-aware reflective system.)

Also, there is no issued firmware that disables MQA - see https://ifi-audio.com/download-hub/ - I am running the GTO Firmware. Both the Cookies and Cream and GTO firmware experience the same problem - I just happen to like the sound signature on the GTO firmware. It should also be noted that I bought the ifi low noise 5v power supply. It really is helpful in creating a very "dark" background, as the power is coming from a PSU, leaving the USB on the DAC to do nothing but transmit data as opposed to also providing power. This unfortunately does nothing to eliminate the clicking.

Again, love the sound. The click is just something that I can hear clearly and I am sensitive to it. If its impossible to make 'go away" - why? Many other forums indicate that its the DACs inability to handle sample rate changes without sending noise into the signal. Is that the USB connection? Is it the onboard switching? Burr Brown Chip?

Our circuits adapt to what they receive without any data manipulation and this adpatation is what causes clicking. Normally this can be avoided by i.e. upsampling, but MQA needs to be unprocessed (bit-perfect) to remain MQA. Long story's short, we're aware of this issue and our R&D team does their best to handle it via a firmware upgrade in the future. Once we have any info, we'll update everyone :)
