How long can one expect this device to last? Is buying a 5 year old used device a smart idea? Can it work even if the battery dies, powered by usb?

We're still getting OG silver micro iDSD units for a battery swap and once that's done they're good to go. micro iDSD BL is as resilient and most these units require either a new battery or fixing physically broken switches. Hope this helps, thanks!

do you charge the swaps/repairs out of warranty?

Yes, we charge for labor and parts in case of products out of warranty.

I have the OG. The IEM sensitivity switch trends to cut in and out or favor the left or right channel as I moved it. Now even if I have it locked in to one of the setting, even "off", it starts to attenuate in one of the channel or the other. Is there a possible easy fix, or should I send in for repair.

BTW, I've enjoyed the OG BL for years. I'm a big fan.

Most likely tracks on the iEMatch switch are tarnished, so it's best to open up a ticket at our support site and send us the product. We'll most likely swap that switch. Thanks!

Just to clarify, do you have an amplifier for these speakers? micro iDSD BL features a headphone amp that won't work with speakers

Just a food for thought; once you have a stereo power amp for your speakers, then you could use micro iDSD BL as a DAC and preamp for it. That would work rather well

Of course. It's a Cambridge audio integrated power amp feeding into a pair of quadral floor standing speakers
