iFi micro iDSD Black-Label - In-Depth Review
Oct 23, 2020 at 10:16 AM Post #781 of 1,056
I cant switch between the two things. If the usb is used (with the laptop) I cant get the audio signal from the optical input. If i remove the usb cable, it works as it should.

Just to clarify, micro iDSD BL's USB input overrides S/PDIF.

OK, quick question. I have my Black Label connected to my pc all the time, don't really use it as a mobile device. Recently (the last 2 days) I have been running it in turbo mode. Got a pair of the DT-880 600 ohm and felt I would need the turbo to power them. Anyway, the power just cut out on the unit. The light is alternating from blue to red and back. I'm assuming maybe steady turbo has drained the battery? Anyway, I've turned it off and am going to let it charge over night. Will see what happens tomorrow.

As far as I can remember, using micro BL only on Eco mode doesn't drain the battery.

Yeah, update it charged up and is fine again. I guess I just never really pushed it in the turbo setting as long as I did the last few days.

And be sure to use a USB-C connection.
Oh I do, be assured. It was just the "glitch" of not using the unit much in turbo, and forgetting it drains the battery. Everything's back to normal now.

Just to share for others' benefit some information which I have just spent two hours! researching...

iFi support tell me that a replacement battery is £90. They claim this is cost price. They require shipment of the product to them. They do not make replacement batteries available (eg for customers living outside the UK).

(I spent ages Googling and YouTubing, and searching iFi's website, to find out how to obtain a battery and how to swap it out, with no success. Hope this assists anyone else with this problem.)

Yes, you can use it as stand alone desktop DAC/Amp. Regarding the charging ... I am not 100% sure but I read somewhere that the charing part will be bypassed in case it is used as desktop DAC/Amp. But I would not be unhappy to get a confirmation from someone who is 100% sure :D

@iFi audio when approximately can we expect the new Micro iDSD (or will it have a new name?)? Just approximately :D
Yes, i read this somewhere as well. But then how was it posibble to use it one time like that. Must be an explanation.

Anyway, thank you for your help.

I have both the usb and the optical input conected. Yes, the usb overrides the optical, but when the usb is silent, then the optical automaticly switches back.
For some reason now it works. :)

BTW it is a Great little unit.
