fair point. I guess the question is better rephrased: is the -18dB attenuation applied all the time to the 4.4mm balanced output or only when using IEMs?
btw, i didn't touch gain. it is at 0 on both devices.
Not sure in reality. I have the signature Pro iCan and have used LCD-5s on both the 4.4mm and the 4-pin XLR and noticed no difference whatsoever. I have not used my Ultimate Ears 18 IEMs with this amp but I suspect the difference in phone impedance would drop the effective output power of the iCan but not sure it would be 18 db. Said another way, I am not sure the iCan is smart enough to know what’s connected to it.
Not sure if anyone else has asked this question earlier in this thread but how does the iFi Pro iCan compare to the Ferrum Oor? Seems like they have different approaches so may be an unfair comparison, but has anyone listened to both and had a clear take on how they stack up?
Really enjoying my iFi Pro iCAN the last few weeks. My other favourite amp, the Violectric V220, is back in Germany for repairs. The tube amps are OK but these two are my go-to amps.
This amp every day now. Great sound and I do enjoy a notch of bass boost.

Interesting. At the bottom of this page (click Support): https://ifi-audio.com/products/pro-ican-signature/
it says IEMatch on both 3.5mm and 4.4mm. And it doesn't look to be a typo since the dB attenuation values differ. I will shoot ifi an email to clarify.
Does anyone know the difference between the ifi studio version of the ican Pro and the standard? Both look to be the signature. Looks like the studio version is cheaper, but I don't see a difference in specs. Maybe the ipower elite doesn't come with the studio version? It doesn't say anything about it.
I have both and honestly, I can't tell the difference. But yeah, the power elite doesn't come with the standard. I really love this amp for certain things...I keep it in the 3D mode so instruments are really separated, which sounds great on acoustic and strong instrumental things. It doesn't sound so good on big productions, like Pink Floyd or Genesis...but I still hear new things on everything I play.

Good to know. I thought that might be the case. I couldn't see anything different from the boards in the photos. I guess if you don't need the power elite it's an option. I just discovered their studio line-up and this and the iDSD Pro didn't look different from the standard offerings. Thanks
