Hi,

How do I use the Geoundhog to eliminate the hum when connecting the Lumin T1 Streamer / DAC directly to my Rotel RB-1590 Amp?

http://www.luminmusic.com/lumin-t1.html

http://www.rotel.com/product/rb-1590

Main Lumin unit and its external linear power supply both have earth ground terminals, but Rotel RB-1590 does not (just spare RCA ports I am not using.

See pics on Lumin back panel.

Thanks!

Please use either a ground binding post or any spare RCA connector.

What products exactly do you want to use with Groundhog? A bit more nfo about your setup would help to answer your question.

I'd like to use this on my amp & DAC to see if it fixes some grounding issues I have, but I'm not sure how it should be connected.

So I buy the RCA base cable & plug the RCA end into one of the unused RCA slots of my amp & dac. But what about that inlet IEC plug? Do I connect a power cable to it?

Does that power cable have to be used in the same wall socket as the amp & dac are connected to get the grounding benefits?

It's for the best to take a look here:

You'll find two things in there: a user manual and a handy PDF file with grounding issues explained. Please take a look there and if you have any additional questions, ask away.

The instructions just say

"Phonos, amplifiers, DACs and similar devices may be directly earthed (GH1) using any unused RCA socket (input or output sockets can be used)"

So I connect the GH1 cable into my amp or DACs inlet IEC socket & then connect the RCA cable to a unused RCA? That doesn't make sense. The amp/DAC won't be able to be powered on.

The manual in the link shows a 3 pin power brick with a DC end cable being used, but that still doesn't make sense. The GH1 3-pin IEC cable can't connect to a 3-pin power brick, unless I use an adapter cable like this.

First of all, please leave IEC cables in your DAC or amp alone as these devices have to be powered somehow and that's not what Groundhog does.

Essentially, you want to connect your Groundhog to a device of your choice via i.e. an unused RCA socket.

Next, you need to connect a power cable (another one, not the one which powers your DAC or amp) to thus far unused end of your Groundhog, the IEC one.

At this point you have your Groundhog connected to one of your devices and another power cable at the same time.

The next step requires connecting that power cable to a power strip or to a wall directly. Here it's essential to know that a socket of your choice has to be grounded.

In a nuthsell, Groundhog provides ground to a system via already grounded socket and all this is done via a regular IEC power cable.

Hopefully all is clear now.

Also, please take a look how our Owen explains the procedure:

I've got a free to good home ifi Groundhog in case anyone needs one. Just drop me a PM, you can email me a shipping label, and it's all yours.

I bought an ifi AC Purifier + Groundhog. It turns out, the AC Purifier is exactly what I needed, but not the groundhog. In fact, the AC Purifier works so well, that I bought a second one to isolate multiple components.

Hello @iFi audio,

I have a vintage Luxman integrated amplifier (L-550) which does not have the typical 3-prong cable (it dates from 1982). Since the chassis has metal on it, it might not be safe, since the amp is not grounded.
Would using the groundhog to ground the amp via an unused RCA socket would be enough for my safety if anything ever happens with the amp ?

Our Groundhog will provide ground, but whether this will keep you safe I can't tell. It wouldn't hurt to ask at Luxman directly :)
