iFi audio ZEN Stream - Streaming elevated to a higher plane

I wonder if either of you guys have ever had to do a complete reflash of your unit, with the software provided by iFi and a Windows computer. I know I had to after testing a beta mine "bricked" so I needed to do this, perhaps this could be a difference, a clean wipe so to speak.

Cheers!!
I forgot to answer about your message
In my case I never heard of such a software, that is provided. It would certainly be worth a try. How do we (with this problem) get it?

Thanks a lot!

I have had some conversations about the wifi disable button, and it may indeed be just a "bug" but here is some info.

If you are running a wired connection I have been told it will default to this, so even if it shows on you are not using it. To check for sure simply change the password in your ifi.local to be incorrect and you will see the wifi is not on when a LAN cable is connected.

Also, make sure you are giving at least one minute after hitting the save button, you will see the physical lights go through their progression after this you can refresh your browser window and check the status of the wifi in the network option.

Cheers!!

Ok, well please add Left/Right balance for people with hearing imbalances. This is the most overlooked feature in the Head Fi industry.
I will certainly mention this, Thanks for bringing it up.

Cheers!!

Thank you very much for your effort!

Has there been an answer as to when we can expect a new version?

I deliberately only use a wired connection, but if I don't disable the connection via SSH, the ZEN Stream is also shown as a WLAN connection. You can easily see this in the router configuration program or with any network scanner tool. It has nothing to do with "correctly logged in via WLAN". It is the service itself that should not be active.

In the meantime, I have read about the same problem in several online forums. I remember that someone wrote that he had this problem only since the last update in August, i.e. the latest version.

The Refresh tool as it is sometimes referred to can be obtained by requesting it from our support. Just tell them you are having issues and would like to bring your base firmware up to a newer version. The Tool can only be used on Windows machines (or PC)

Hope this helps,

Cheers!!

Hi ifi

Good to hear you are on this issue.

I have the Wi-Fi-toggle issue too. But mine doesn’t default to wired connection. It is very clear when the wired connections is used as I have gone to great lengths optimizing using your elite, lan purifier and very good cables and a switch so it’s very annoying that this keeps happening.

I only use UPNP and airplay. All other are disabled by software. And my guess is the problem could be due to airplay messing it up forcing the streamer to Wi-Fi mode. I can’t figure out how the airplay works and it it’s not allowing me to use my router as the Wi-Fi receiver and sending the signal onwards via lan and the wired connection to the streamer. I have to toggle the airplay on an iOS app from 2-20 times before it plays with sound.

I also tried blocking the Wi-Fi signal on the back of the streamer with a audioquest noise stopper (and disabled the Wi-Fi in software too), and that resulted in the airplay stopped working at all. I tried not using airplay and disable it, because we only use it for radio and podcasts. Instead I tried to use the internet radio function in your app. But it won’t play. I shows it does but there’s no audio. Sometimes after 10 min. to up to an hour the sound suddenly comes on.

I can duplicate that connection issue in a mild way when I try to stream from tidal or Qobuz using m-connect and JCAT play. When I select a song it shows it playing but there’s no sound. If I select it again the sounds there - and it works.

For me it seems to be an issue with using airplay and switching back and from airplay to UPNP.

And it’s not a network thing. I have fiber and very optimized connection. I tried two other streamers Wiim and Aavik and there’s no issue.

Is there a way to have the Zen stream to default to USB out? Whenever I turn on my system it always defaults back to SPDIF. I have to manually go and change the output to USB every single time I turn on my system.
If it is defaulting no matter what...

Make sure DAC is on before powering on the Zen, also if you tell me the make and model of the DAC, it seems some don't adhere to reporting the way others do we have seen this before.

As an example iFi SMSL and even Schiit I have all had and they stuck in that scenario.

Cheers!!

Its an Exogal Comet. When I turn off the DAC and it goes into standby mode the Zen stream still shows the output as USB but once I power it up out of standby mode it switches over to SPDIF.
Thanks for the update,

I know it's a pain, but many DAC manufacturers don't adhere to all USB standards for reporting, and issues like this result.

I am going to pass this on to tech and see if there's anything that can be done.

Cheers!!

With my ZS, it sometimes switches to coax out from USB if I switch the streamer on before the dac. I now turn on DAC (iFi ZEN One Signature, then turn on the ZS. When powering down I switch off the dac, then the ZS.
Since following the above procedure I’ve had no problems with the ZS switching output.
