Would anyone care to provide any impressions on using this as a pure DAC using the line level variable out mode instead of the fixed mode so it can be used for volume control? Also, when doing this, I assume the bass feature would work being output to whatever speakers or external amp you are sending the signal to?

True Bass is only for phone out.

Are you sure? I can't remember where, maybe on the other thread, but it was reported that the True Bass did affect the line out signal when switched to variable instead of fixed. I am just trying to confirm what functionality is present using "variable" versus "fixed" line out into another amp (using the Zen as DAC only).

So using the Zen Dac to feed another amp or powered speakers with variable line out selected will not allow use of gain or true bass features?

These two features were designed for ZEN DAC's headphone out.

This is very interesting point that rear 4.4 BAL has no hiss noise but front 4.4 does.

Is it because of pre-amp function???

4.4 on the rear is a line out and the same socket on the front is a headphone out with a dedicated headphone circuit before it.

Hello

I want to use iPhone 7 streaming Tidal as the source for this DAC. It is unclear to me how to connect and power it using lightning to usb 3 camera adapter and what additional cable adapters are necessary. I assume that the IPhone CANNOT provide the required power to the DAC. Then I need a 5V power supply. What power supply cable tip type is required? What amperage / power rating should the power supply have? Thanks much for your help. I believe the manual should sketch out all the different connection scenarios in detail. Having said all this, what connection strategy provided highest quality w iPhone 7 as the source? (Are there different options?). Sketch would be helpful. Much obliged for any help.

thanks, Don
