iFi audio xDSD- The Official Thread

They both prob come with all that. Though I only use xDSD for BT b/c for once I CAN'T hear a difference between it and a wired connection (which was my old LG V30 ((Quad DAC)) to my Beyers). Only cable I use is the one to charge it.

That's the main reason I got the xDSD: Bluetooth. It's an outstanding implementation. On the Go, BT would be more than enough and very convenient. I found that using the xDSD wired to line out, also gives my Yamaha N560 a really beautiful sound that I enjoy more than my Topping DX7s or the W4S µDAC-HD or even the DX7s+Liquid Spark as a preamp on it. Is that good!

As a little comparison: I don't find the xDSD DAC to be superior to the DX7s, but it's more forgiving with low-quality source and musical; yet with a better source, detailed enough as the µDAC-HD but with better overall macro dynamics. I only like my DX7S better when I use it with bigger amps. With small amps like the Liquid Spark, the DX7s to the xDSD is no different.

I do also use my xDSD as a BT receiver, wired in line out to my Marantz receiver. The Marantz has AirPlay/DLNA, but I find the xDSD BT quality still superior (even if technically lossy compared to AirPlay/DLNA).

Ok cool!

Yeah I think the xDSD's DAC (and of course supporting tech) being so high quality is the reason why I can't tell the difference b/t it in BT and a wired connection. In the past I could though. And it's not even using aptX HD, just aptX. I've read posts by several others in here in the past who said the same thing, that the Burr Brown DAC outdoes Sabre and that is why it sounds better despite being in BT. Works for me!

Well the DX7 also costs $100 more than the xDSD too. lol

Wait I can use the built in amp with the dac on the xdsd right?

Yes. It's kind of dark compared to the Liquid Spark, but very nice with some HPs like the Senns HD1 and HD6 Mix and with my Sony MDR-EX1000 (in fact these 3 I do like them more from the xDSD than from the LS). Yet the Liquid Spark as being a desktop solution has a lot more power.

Ok, I want to use my m6 as a source and check out the dac and amp. I don’t like warm or dark stuff so idk lol. I just wanted more power than my m6 and a superior dac.

Does anyone have any theories as to what is causing the battery drain? I don't keep the headphones plugged in, only the pc to usb cable but after a couple of weeks of not using after a full charge the battery has gone.

Ok got my topping nx4 and ifi xdsd today.

Some comparisons and some pics.

Ok first and foremost the nx4 does sound better than my Fiio m6, it just isn’t in the same league as the ifi xdsd. The xdsd has a bigger and deeper soundstage and has more detail and a more natural sound. It’s pretty much just like I wanted- a rich lush mojo like sound with more treble bite.

Really pretty much the best sounding portable source I’ve heard. Oh, and that was using Bluetooth connection! It didn’t come with the usb a to usb c otg connector. I didn’t experience any background hiss either, a very nice clean black background. Dynamics are stellar also.

Oh and nx4 is a fine powerful amp, don’t get me wrong. But I couldn’t be happy with the sound after hearing xdsd. I’m ordering a usb C otg cable stat, and returning the topping.

Pics oh and the build is beautiful as you can see and it’s tiny.
