To drive power hungry cans... 1000mW@32 ohm is a good number for many full size headphones.

Usually the cans which require more power have possibility to be balanced
AKG is may be one of the exceptions without a separate ground...

P.S. I believe it will be a separate thread started for the Gryphon, right?

yes, AKG, Beyerdynamic DT. some fostex? and many other.
every hedphone can go unbalanced. but about only 20% can go balanced.
so IFI is the company for the balanced people.
they only have one serious product for the unbalanced people! idsd. but costs a lot.
the old xds is nice, but not so powerfull.
they should make a mini idsd , unbalanced with a big fat jack. 250-350USD

No official thread for the Gryphon yet, but with all those features, I'm especially interested in SE and Balanced Line in.

Every headphones can go balanced if they have a separate ground for left and right channels in their design. They need just a proper cable to go balanced.
Yes, AKG, Beyerdynamic DT, some fostex, some Ultrasone and maybe some others can not go balanced due to their design...but majority of headphones can.
I believe all planar-magnetic headphones can go balanced.

I believe the more expensive headphones you go with the more chances that it will be balanced. All Audeze, Abyss, Dan Clark, Snorry, Hifiman, ect..
The last dynamic headphones I owned were HD800S and they had a balanced cable in the package.

but they with more expensive headphones dont buy the new idsd. they go for some stationary with more power or a semi portable idsd
xdsd is a middel class amp/dac. and in that section 20% can go balanced
So give us a SE only xDSD

Guys the arguments for and against Balanced probably belong in another thread, as do all discussions about Gryphon probably.

Even more people will complain about the inclusion of MQA within Gryphon and will not purchase for that reason too.

Many units offer DSD,DXD,MQA.
I only use PCM.. my unit support MQA. But i Dont use it.
and yes. Can understand why people dont like MQA.
and therefore IFI have different SW. with and without MQA support
