Is the neo stream dac = the neo dac?

They're not quite the same but about similar in terms of sound quality. There's no way of comparing them however, one can't isolate NEO Stream's DAC.

My iDSD died -- it's only just over 3 years old, ugh. It was always more than I needed, though I have the stack with iCAN and iESL. I haven't changed the settings in 2 years. I'm checking with iFI to see what it would take to repair, but if I have to replace, might downgrade to a Schiit Modius or something.

Sorry to hear that. I would get ifi to fix it, it’s an incredible unit. Makes me wonder what might be the cause of a flagship dac just died on you.

Makes me wonder too. I take good care of my gear. Just days after the 1 year warranty ended, unit itself made a horrible noise when set to tube or hybrid. I didn't use the tube much, so didn't think that would have died already, so I think it's just a bad unit. I just kept it on solid state -- the light display started degrading the past couple years too.

I'm sorry to hear about that, please let us know at our support platform here: https://support.ifi-audio.com

The odds are that our tech staff will be able to rescue the product!

Just to clarify, does the product work in the solid-state mode? Or is it dead in the sense that it doesn't even turn on?

It turns on, but no sound, through the balanced output nor the headphone jack. First time I rebooted, it gave some sort of error message which I didn't get a chance to write down. I turned it off again, blew some dust remover through it, tried to open it up for more thorough cleaning but couldn't, turned it on and the error doesn't show up anymore, but still no sound.

Yup, that's something our support should take a look into. The most common error on Pro iDSD's display is about faulty tubes, but then your device should be usable in the solid-state mode. If it's not, something more severe had to happen to the product.

They must be backed up, hadn't heard from them in at least 5 days. Good news is after a time out over the weekend and another air cleaning, I plugged it back in and it's working again. Fingers crossed it'll hold on a while longer!

That's good news! If something bad happens in the future, please fell free to let us know, thanks!

I'm thinking about getting one of these for adding a little tube flavour into my system when the mood takes (Ethernet). Also tempted to use it via USB for desktop applications. Is there any audio lag when used with USB?

Thanks! Just to clarify, by any audio lag you mean vid and sound out of sync when watching i.e. YT etc.? Or any delay at all during playback?
