If you only have 600$ to use to get yourself a headphone rig for your PC what would you get?

This could be applied to anything from the headphones itself to the DAC, amp, cables, DIY and etc.

POST IT OR THINK IT!!!

All used:

$270 Headphones: HD650
$200 Amp: CKKIII
$100 DAC: AMB y1
$30 IC: Radioshack RCA, power etc.

I can't think of better value for the money. This would be about the best you could do with that budget.

Where is the world would you find the HD650's for 270. The cheapest I have found them for was 339.

Personally I did not like the 650's at all and found the 600's to be much better to my ears.

Senn HD600 - Amazon.com 307.14
Little Dot - MK III 199.00 + Shipping
Bluejeans Cable LC-1 2 foot - 29.00

I'll list a few components that could be mixed and matched that I either have liked myself or have a good reputation around these parts:

DAC:
Valab NOS Dac - $220 shipped (new)

AMP:
Head-Direct EF1 - $260 shipped (used), although you may be able to talk him down

Little Dot MKIII Tube Amplifier - $245 shipped (not recommended with low impedance headphones like the Shures)

COMBOS:

Head-Direct EF2 USB DAC / Amp - $210 shipped (new)

Headamp Pico portable amp+DAC - $400 shipped (used)

HEADPHONES:

Sennheiser HD580 - $230ish + Shipping (used - if you can convince the buyer to ship outside Australia)

Shure SRH840 - $200, but supposedly can be had for south of $150 new if you call Northern Sound & Light.

Both second (third, ..) hand.
* HeadAmp Pico (DAC/Amplifier) -> ±$400
* AKG K240 Sextett -> ±$100

Then the remaining $$ on a bottle of whisky and some nice CDs.

I'd spend about $400 for a used or refurbished (and occasionally on sale) PreSonus Central Station. It has a very nice DAC and amp section. The other $200 would go for a used Sennheiser HD-600. I wish I still had my pair (sold to fund the HD-800) since they were one of my favorites.

$200 - E-MU 0404 USB
$150 - Starving Student Millet Hybrid
$50 - DIY cables
$200 - Used Sennheisers or Grado SR225

Since the first three are all in my setup, I suppose it's pretty expected....

I would get ...

Headphones

Ultrasone HFI 2200ULE - ~120
OR
Alessandro MS1i - ~100

DAC:

Modded DAC-AH ~110

AMP
ALL TUBE Integrated Speaker and Headphone amp

Musical Paradise MP-301 - 220$
OR
T.E.S T-300 - 350$

if I had $600.... I would most likely put it toward a Reference 2/3 DAC from Audio-GD. Or I could just buy back a 600Ohm DT880 and pair it with my Roc amp.

Me?

I listen to mostly everything. But if I had to put it in order probably

Rock > Classic > Metal > Punk > Alternative > Electronica > Blues.........

Sorry but I really can't put this in order. I listen to a lot more with different genres too.

I am sorry for being too unspecific. But I really do like the music I hear.
