Terrific thread. There are a few other titles that I think are basic to any good collection of piano music:

Arthur - Rubinstein - The Rubinstein Collection, Vol. 28

Rubinstein was perhaps the greatest interpreter of Chopin, and this CD features
the best performances of the Polonaises I have ever heard. Polonaise No. 6
in A Flat Major, Op. 53 (Héroïque) is absolutely magical.

There are also a lot of great Horowitz recordings, but two documents I would not
want to be without are:

Vladimir Horowitz - Horowitz Live and Unedited

Vladimir Horowitz - Horowitz in Moscow

Ditto. Michelangeli's Debussy is unsurpassed.

A fabulous thread and a great writeup. Thank you, David.
