I just sold my K701's (which are the best phones I've ever heard) to buy a set of portable pair. My budget is $225 but would like to keep it around $200 if possible. I need something that has great isolation, sound quality similar to the K701 (if possible), not bass heavy but so not bass shy. Would this be possible? I've searched the net and have come up with several IEM's which look very interesting such as the ER ER4s, Shure E500PTH, UE Superfi.5 PRO, etc. However, I have no what so ever experience with any IEM's before the K701's. Can you guys please help me out to pick a pair? Thank you very much.

2ndhand im716 and a 2ndhand superfi5 should set you back about 200us$. I find them very different and each specialise in different kinds of music. I think that that would be the perfect portable set

I never heard a 701 however

2nd hand ?
new super.fi5 pro are going for $199 and sometimes even $149,
you can get 2nd hand IM716 for less then $100,

then theres the futuresonics Atrio M5/8 for $150, which is a nice piece of work, or if you can wait, the q-JAYS will be out towards the end of the month, at around $180

Check out the Atrio M5. Superb sound, excellent isolation, easy to drive. Can be had for about $135. There is a LONG thread here on Head-Fi regarding the Atrios.

Not sure about livewires, but I picked up my SF5 Pros for 160

, and I absolutely love them, even though I had to use the double flanges to get a good fit.

I would also say that the Ultimate Ears super.fi 5Pros would be your best best.

You can get super.fi 5pros for around 170 at amazon. They offer a kind of warm and fun sound, sort of like a mix between my hd555 and es7 sound signatures.

E500 or se530. The se530s I hear are pretty much the same as the less expensive e500s. When I first heard a pair of the se530s, my association was to the k701. The se530s sounded very much like the k701s to me. So I would go with the e500s for that price range.

x2 big time to this, the e500 in my opinion offer the best sound consumer iem wise and very comfy, the e500 beat the livewires sound wise, the livewires are very good and pretty flat sounding, and custom is hard to pass up,livewires personally only beat by triple fi and shure se530 in the consumer market

But to finish answering the OP's initial question, none of them are going to sound like your old 701s.

The Super.fi 5 pro's I have for sale and back up, the buyer's eCheck didn't clear. See the link in my sig for a low price.

I would place them above the E2c, Bose IE, Ety ER6i, but below the Shure SE310 or E500. They are at least as good as a nice set of PX100's, probably a little better because the PX100 sound more dark and the SF pro have a nice high end.
