I've had a pair of Shure E3's for quite a while and I now have the upgrade bug. These things have been around the world with me a few times and it's time to replace them and put them out to pasture.
I'm looking to go with the Westone UM2 or the Shure se420. I've found them both for somewhere in the $300 range and I can't spend any more than that. Anyone know any comparable IEMs in this range? What is the general concensus about differences in SQ with these two IEMs?
Also, about upgrading to a dual-driver IEM: will they suffer terribly if I'm using them unamped with my IPod Classic? I used my E3s unamped frequently and they were fine, but what about the 420's or the UM's? I have a Total Bithead and I'm about to get a Mini-box E with my new IEM purchase, so these will be the two amps I'll be using them with... anyone have experience with these amps and these phones together?
Any help is appreciated.
