I actually like Shure's short cord where I can decide what cable length to use. If I'm out, it tends to be shorter, but at home or somewhere that I'll be stationary, I prefer a longer cord.

I like the Shure disconnecting cables...that would be an idea also...

Neither.
I use inline remote controls (i.e.: Sony RM-MC40ELK and 55ELK) with most of my portable audio sources and prefer the Sony Japan SL/SP series of IEM's (MDR-EX90SL and 85SL come to mind), so I prefer a 0.5-meter (approx. 18 inches) cord with the option to use a 1-meter extension if needed for other sources.
It's always nice to have options without having to compromise.

Depends on your height really. I need 50". Anything too short is well, too short!
