Like you I couldn't find anything about the IE6 pretty much anywhere, apart from Sennheiser's own blurb.

After that period, I found them both to have a similar balance: The IE6 being (as advertised) more prominant and powerful in the bass - and they really don't lose much in definition down low, if anything. Both are very detailed and insightful further up and a huge leap up from budget canal phones, and the IE7 had an edge in resolution and soundstaging that would perhaps have developed further if I'd had longer with them. But I wouldn't say that there was a huge amount in it. As I intended to use them on a motorbike (where bass can easily get washed out) I opted for the benefits of the 6 over the 7.

So impressed am I with the range that I decided to shell out on the IE8 as well, which was originally way above what I wanted to pay. I'd say they're a very worthwhile leap up from both, and in another league altogether when it comes to the bass. The depth, impact and definition in the lower registers totally eclipses the other two, and any other IEM I've heard. Further up they're similarly impressive, and extremely detailed (although not at all bright with a darkish Senn house sound). Again I've only got 30 hours on them so these are only initial impressions.

Another thing I would say is that the 6s are by far the most comfortable (and lightest), but the 7s and 8s offer better isolation. I'll be keeping the 6s for commuting.

Thanks for the wonderful info.

i also wud love to have IE8 ..but they are out of my budget unless i sell my HD600..which is not happening anytime soon

so i ll stay with IE7...atleast they ll be a big jump up from MX400..lol

I'm looking at replacing my now broken old Sony earbuds and I really fancy the IE6's. In the house I use HD595's so I'm familiar with the Senns house sound but I don't know how the IE6's will compare to the Sony buds or the 595's. Ideally I'd like more bass than my full-size cans are giving me. Can anyone give any insight?

One more thing - microphony. Do the IE's transmit much noise from cables rubbing against clothing? I hate that.

None at all.

They won't have the bass depth and presence to match your 595s though. For that you'd need the IE8. For the money though, I doubt there's much around that price to match the IE6 in that respect. Maybe the Denons?

Thanks for the swift response - good news concerning microphony. Here's the thing though, I don't feel that the HD595's are good with bass at all. I find them very lean sounding. Is it just me?

Alex A, you forgot the CX6.

Althought, I would bet that they are similar to IE6 but with more isolation...Hopefully.

Ahh

Well to be fair my personal experience of the 595 was some time ago and in conjunction with the whole of the HD range when I used to work at an outlet. I seem to remember it having rather a full sound, though I could be mistaken.

All I can say is that for IEMs, the IE6 certainly kick out a fairly solid bass performance but I wouldn't say it was 'more' than a good pair of full size cans such as the 595.

Yup. I never found the CX6 listed until I had already ordered the IE6. I probably would have gone with the CX had I known I would end up using them as commuting phones.

If I had the money these would be the ones I would buy because the IE8's seem to have isolation problems, according to the big IE8 appreciation thread. Right now I am going for the lower CX55 and may upgrade to CX6 in the future.

IE8 sacrifice isolation for larger than life soundstage.

whereas IE7 strikes a great balanced between impressive soundstage and great isolation.

atleast thats what i feel.

Apple store in norway have the IE6 and CX6 relatively cheap, 170 USD for the IE6 and 185 for the CX6. Have anyone here tried the CX6 and can comment on the sound? I'm very sensitive to sibilance so i like phones that dont overdo the highs, and I also love bass so it would be nice if they had the same nice bass thats been described with the IE6.
