Can someone elaborate on what the sound quality differences are among the various firmware options?

Here's a brief comparison taken from another thread. Credits to nakedtoes!

My rating for the firmwares D- details, L- low, M- Mid, H- High, S- Sound stage, C- Clarity

1 lowest up to 5 highest..

1.2.2 D5, L4, M4, H5, S5, C5

1.2.3 D3, L5, M3, H3, S5, C3

1.2.5 D4. L3, M4, H4, S5, C4

1.2.6 D3, L3, M2, H2, S3, C3

1.2.7 D3, L3, M4, H2, S2, C3

1.2.2 sound the best but is the most buggy among the above.. Might be too bright for some ppl........ 1.2.6 and 1.2.7 sound the most neutral and boring..

Interesting poll. Good job!

Again I think that it may depend on file format (MP3, FLAC etc.) as what is changing are the codecs.

Most importantly iBasso should just adopt a set of mature official codecs rather than random daily updates that they currently adopt and this whole issue will go away.

iBasso, it is time...!

Please.

I voted for the wrong firmware. Can I take it back? Lol. I was going to choose 1.2.5 but selected 1.2.2 because it is what I'm currently using.

Been listening to 1.2.2, 1.2.5, 1.2.6, 1.2.7.

Personal preference leaning towards 1.2.5 and 1.2.6.

1.2.2 was abit too bright for my taste with not enough bass slam.

1.2.5 with really good soundstage and "dynamic" sounding. However I do find a very slight linger in clarity.

1.2.6 sounds "flatter" when compared to 1.2.5. Seems to me the treble has been subdued. But surprisingly clarity edges over 1.2.5. Bass is slightly tighter here.

1.2.7 simply sounds wrong to me. :confounded:

I agree, together with 1.2.3b, 1.2.7 really sounded wrong for me. Between 1.2.2, 1.2.5 and 1.2.6 it's just a matter of which FW is the most stable. Turns out for my usage scenario1.2.2 is the most stable. But I like 1.2.5 the best SQ-wise. I don't hear much difference between 1.2.5 and 1.2.6. However, 1.2.6 is the FW I hated the most because of the crossfade bug (feature if you will).

Yup. 1.2.5 and 1.2.6 the differences are only very subtle. What is the cross fade bug? Haven't encounter that before on the 1.2.6. But 1.2.5 media scanning is really slow. to me 1.2.6 sounded abit similar to a heavily EQed Cowon j3 haha.
