Its just that the urge to buy a new toy is strong within me.

I'm having a hard time fighting that urge myself. My Max and Dx220 are more then enough atm but that new toy pull is hard to resist. If they come out with a balanced AMP9 I won't be able to fight it anymore. Even the Max will get put aside for that

I hate nowadays how the technology becomes SO outdated in a short time... Years ago you bought the flagship equipment from a brand and it was the top for a looooong time... Now, with the planned obsolescence, the things last for a very short time... You invest near to 1k$ and from one day to another, there is a new version... Im not going to change my 220 at all and im glad that the brands are investing in some different products but i hope that it doesnt mean that are going to stop to develop for the dap, otherwise, i would rethink to give it another try to the brand
Who needs "planned obsolescence" when fierce competition and constant development lead to newer, much better tech every few years?

normally i would already be infected with the virus and would look forward to the sale every day ... However, for many years I have had that satisfied feeling again ... the dx220max makes me happy as it has not been for a long time :relaxed:

To be on the safe side ... but I asked my hi-fi dealer to pre-order the dx300 for me .... could replace the dx160 :see_no_evil::deadhorse:

Well then why not R8 i thought they are both warm too? Though its all my impression from reviews i have read, i did not audition neither of those lol. So might be wrong. Can you compare it to dx228?
I didn’t listen To new R6 but reading looks not like R8 that sounds a bit warm but not warm as M8

You have a lot of patience to wait until 2022 or later for your DX330. I would have just settled for DX300 for now :D

i know, i know, just a typo, but as long as we can switch from mqa discussion, why not have some fun

Resistance is not futile.

LOL! It doesn’t have to be me, Ibasso supports the mod community in a huge way, the way that I have never seen any other companies to have done, or even tried to. I was just an example that Ibasso is really being supportive to the community.

Ah, I could contribute but unfortunately I suffer from Lazyitis and not-being-In-The-mood disorder.

as long as we can switch from mqa discussion

Oh, that one isn’t going anywhere. It’s like touching the third rail with lots of heated and controversial opinions. People just get charged up with that one. Lots of strong emotions associated with that one but I know how you feel. I was once on a dap thread that went on about the sonic differences between micro sd card brands “soundings better” that went on for like 14 pages then it stopped only for someone to bring it back from the dead and that second wave lasted 10 pages straight. People made charts and listening descriptions for each one. It was intense and not in good way. Haha

I dunno....I feel like whitigir set a page goal for the thread to get to 299 by January 21, 2021 and we must Fulfill our destiny. HAha

MQA will have more formats like DSD files. Personally I don’t understand all the controversy. Flac has “less” mb than wav since some of data isn’t audible. The reason it’s open sourced the unofficial story I heard was that some deadhead (for those not from the US that’s a term used for Grateful Dead fans) wanted to archive all the dead stuff that was recorded live. They were one of only a few acts that allowed fans to directly plug into the soundboard of their live shows. A lot of young people don’t remember that it was prohibited to record live shows BITD before smartphones.

Taylor Swift to my knowledge doesn’t have any of her music on Spotify no usually tops all record sales. Like her or not she’s a pretty clever and savvy businesswoman.

My gripe with streaming services is how little artists are paid in streaming their music most have to do tons of live shows and sell merch to make money. A lot has been said about Swift’s “indie” records this year since most indie acts and their venues have struggled financially during Covid. Swift or Jay Z or Beyoncé in this view are seen as plutocrat musicians (and with reason).

(Fun Fact: in the us the Covid relief bill has some money going to these venues which to me awesome. However, not everyone thinks this way and considers it to be “Socialism”.)

I just don’t think that more “bits” per se makes music sound better but rather how it’s recorded and mastered. In my experience even a crappy MP3 file will have 32 bit float resolution and sound pretty good on a great dap. I do think with discoveries in AI, files hooked up to the WiFi will have the ability to “make up the lost data”. Just think about programs like EAC that rip CDs and match their accuracy to database to give you an exact copy. I sincerely believe this technology isn’t “far fetched” for future “lossless” streaming services.

I just believe that most biases come from the fact that MQA is figured to be yet another DRM Trojan horse for the record companies to make more $. Sure but isn’t it the same way Sony uses its Bravia chip to make their movies standout as a proprietary technology only use on their devices or Bravia TVs?

Fun fact: the very people who have a gripe with MQA are the very same people who put custom firmware with “watermarks” with its maker are “ok” with it. So in short: When the product is “free”, you are the product.”

Personally feel that we all have to live with some cognitive dissonance so that not to have a nervous breakdown. Haha

It is however, important to be an informed customer and citizens to make things better. Simply put there is enough supply of people wanting to be informed so the demand and outcomes suffer resulting in politics of grievances. A brand Evangelical or reviews/reviewer (these flagship daps are expensive so making a purchasing decisions when it’s not being sent to you for free or to try for free isn’t an option for everyone) they too have their own self interest and this is important stuff to remember.... we are all part of the matrix per se but being Naïve or lacking self’s awareness is choices though. Take everything with a grain of salt. haha
I like that you mentioned Greatful Dead taper community and the innovations they’ve spearheaded. An exemplary community re hi fidelity care.
I began archiving live lossless GD soundboard bootlegs 15 years ago, about the time remaining band members put an end to free downloads of such from Archive.
I now have >2.5 terabytes of said.

You mean every few months? It's getting a bit ridiculous now. AKM probably burned down because they were making too may chips too quickly! :p

Oh I didn’t know that they did that and it shows how Jerry was probably the heart and soul true spirit of GD community and the band. He was really awesome guy towards the end of his life he would play with lots of bluegrass musicians. Too bad he didn’t take better care of himself. Ah...I miss the early days of the Internet, they were so innocent and filled can with promise. I remember the practice of “trading tapes” aka Bootlegs with snail mail. Its really hard to remember that such times ever existed no today’s world. I feel blessed that I had childhood before technology took over. I have such fond memories of those times.

When I read Dylan sold his entire discography the first thing that came to my mind was “Great, I’m probably gonna hear a version of Blowin’ in the Wind in some pharmaceutical commercial with a reworked chorus that’s got the name of some new ED pill.”

I’m glad Paul McCarthy was able to buy back the Beatles discography from Michael Jackson. I hated seeing their songs used that way.

The player is not even released and the thread is getting bigger hour by hour.
This is what I call true fan love. 💖
Only with Ibasso folks , everyone is so very open minded. Like not afraid of derailing the thread, but never get it too far as they still are heading toward the Players from Ibasso, like everything is fun and game and no one opinions are being trolled or attacked, like everyone has their own dream and not afraid of taking any dosage of reality, like unity (when there are trolls), like Ibasso folks . I love Ibasso folks lol

One thing about the noob vs the “seasoned” ibasso owner is that I think that if the noob gets an ibasso or the dx300 he/she will have a more awesome experience because they don’t know what to expect and the seasoned and faithful ibasso owners roughly know what to expect (Ibasso house sound) and their expectations may be higher because of the comparisons to other ibasso models as references.

I dunno what do you guys think???
