That is just an Isolator, which usually solves grounding issues. You shouldn't have these problems if you run it o battery without a power supply connected.

Thank you for the link. I also don't want to go into a discussion about that, but they just wrote what I said: " the noise on the USB ground can travel through the DAC and manifest itself as noise and ground loop."
If you have problems with grounding, it is a great unit (I use one myself when I have grounding issues).
But AFAIK the discussion was not about noise from the USB connection, but the processing of the USB signal through the USB chips.
BTW: I use the D16 with a USB connection to my MacBook Pro and I am very happy with the sound.
