I'll admit the two volume knob situation confuses me a bit I haven't used the 320MAX so I don't know what it's like. This is something I'll have to try in person in order to really get a sense of. But either way, I'm this close to selling my XD05 Pro and getting the D16.

Nothing to worry, the analog volume wheel is little bit rough, but it clicks without problems into right position... And you have not a channel imbalance...
Plus there is fine grained digital volume on the small wheel
That's one important feature in this context.
You need to use the stepped wheel actually only once to set maximum listening volume and then regulate with the small wheel as you are used to from other DAPs which only feature digital volume control
I'm using the DC-Elite now. In some ways, it sound even better that the DX320. I'm so impressed with it that I'm wondering about the D16. I really like that Rohm sound. The D16 uses iBasso's own R2R DAC. How are the two differ?

It's actually not R2R but 1 bit DSD conversion
DC Elite and D16 differ in character.
To me DC Elite sounds more technical, revealing and transparent with slight V shape whereas D16 is analogue, smooth and effortless without losing details with a more even frequency tuning

I too am waiting to upgrade from Elite to the D16 as well. The difference is night and day. Soundstage just expands in all directions with no colouration and great extension.
DC Elite sounds more closed in and harsher in comparison. The D16 is really something special.
Was lurking at it in the background since months before launch.
Couldn't live a day without thinking about the D16 in the last weeks because the puzzle pieces that where leaking through the few reviews and the little circle of people here on head-fi or on other media channels where so on spot with what I was searching for but also at the same time they were not enough to form a whole picture
So I had to pull the trigger since no other devices I'm knowing from exists or is launching in the next weeks/months which matches my requirements that much as the D16 does given the price tag.

Ibasso D16 Taipan is really another level, I never heard something that transparent, dynamic, detailed yet musical. Also I can hear in some music recording, can hear the pin point location of the instruments moving from left to right, freaking amazing. Never had I hear something so impressive before not even my Chord Hugo or Mojo.
