oh boy. phono is not to be fooled with - the line-in phono signal is usually very weak and a receiver's phono stage boosts it insanely to get to "normal" levels. when you put a strong line in signal into the phono, and the phono stage boosted that even more, i'm not suprised it fried your Grados.

the drivers are probably toasted, it's time to send them to Grado. sorry to hear about that.
