Wow, congratulations on the happy ending. That's a little creepy that the old man did it, but I guess that the important thing is that everyone gets their stuff back.

That is good news to hear everyone got back what is rightfully theirs. I would agree with the others and phone the police to file a complaint. People like him should get punished to the fullest extent of the law, there's just no excuse for what he did.

Did you call the cops on Uncle Leo, yet?
We all will get old sooner or later.

Yeah, this is actually going to be a bit of a problem for me quite soon. Irreplaceable HE90s, borrowed Omega2s, sought-after Falle-Safe Basic Picking Kit, ultra-cool Hughes Probeye thermal camera... a bonanza for the techno-kleptomaniac.

Hopefully someone in Boston sells a decent quality but lightweight night-table-sized safe[1] that I can retrofit with a Mas-Hamilton X-09 or my extra S&G 6730 with a spyproof dial. I don't really care about drill and torch protection so much as crowbar, opportunist, and code-shoulder-surfing-roommate protection. Besides, that way I can always drill the safe if I forget the code and repair it after. Or weld in some hardplate and DIY a glass relocker if I feel it's needed...

[1]I have a friend in the Netherlands by the name of Han Fey. His dining room has end-tables that are top-quality Lips bank safes, and indeed his entire lock collection is stored in high-security safes. A lock collection in a safe collection! He once told me that I could have his smallest (perfectly sized for me) safe if I could carry it to the door... it weighs 400lbs. High-security safes are invariably very very heavy. (if I remember correctly, to achieve better than UL TL-15, the safe has to be >1500lbs. TL-15 means it will withstand a tools-only attack for 15 minutes. TX is torch/explosives, TXTL you can I'm sure guess.) This is for a very simple reason -- if the burglar can carry it away, he has an unlimited amount of time to crack it open and dosen't have to worry about noise.

Almost forgot, my heartiest congratulations on recovering the gear!
That's totally awesome. How was it discovered that the old guy did it?

Aman that calls for a building beat-down. Congrats on finding the stuff. How did you know this guy had it? I was convinced it was punk kids. Oh well you never can tell. Did you get a picture of the stuff in his place? Snuff him once for me.

Keep in touch, I'm always happy to help.

Does anyone know a good Boston-area safe dealer? Preferably one that sells Chubb Planet[1]?

[1] Very cool fairly new safe, basically made out of a freaky ultra-strong plastic that's also fireproof.
