I greatly prefer the HD600 over the HD650. What about you?

I've listen to them both, and there's no question.

I like the sound of the HD600 much more than the HD650.

But, the HD600 clearly sounds better (finer dynamics, more controlled) than the little sib, HD580.

Anyone else share the same feeling?

I'm with you in both points.

Notes are better defined in the 600 than the 580 (ie. the 580 sounds grainier).

I'm eagerly awaiting the day when I can compare the 600 and 650 in balanced drive.

I've heard them both and there is NO WAY I'd pay £299 for the HD-650 when I can get the superb HD-600 for £129...... no way Jose! I've got a second pair of HD-600 on their way I love them so much I bought another pair......... superb 'phones and well worth snapping up at the bargain basement price they are in some places. HD-600 is King...... long live the King!

I have both at home but I rarely use the HD600 anymore. It's superb for electronic music but I do not listen much to this kind of music and the 650 is imo better with rock.

Yup, spot on! They're good at everything...... not "exceptional" at everything but they handle all types of music very well.

HD 600: crisper, airier, more organic

HD 650: cleaner, clearer, higher resolution, more liquid

I for one clearly prefer the HD 650 for said virtues, although I miss some of the HD 600's airiness.

The same can be said of the HD 650.

I actually liked the 580 better than the 600 based on sound quality. Appearance-wise the 600 is better.

But the 650 is better than both, in both regards, IMO.

Interesting poll. People are all over the map with preference for these three cans. I'm surprised the 580 is not fairing better than it is at this point. It not only sounds great, it was the price champion for years over the 600.

I loved the hd580 and was pretty disappointed with the hd650. But now, after six months of using the 650 I now love it and can't go back to the 580. Its just missing a lot of stuff that makes the 650 sing. If I had to made my choice immediately when I heard the 650, I would've stuck with the 580. But now its 650 all the way.

HD580 is where my money went. to my ears its identical to the 600, add the grille and they are even closer.

While the 650 is superior, IMHO requires a higher level of amplification, cleaner source and better recorded souce meterial to really capitalize on its potential.

I agree that the 600/580 are better all around cans, when used with mid-fi amps/sources.

**edit**
Should be getting some spending cash for christmas / birthday.. we'll see how long I can hold out

600 sounds more sweet and brighter but 650 has few more octaves of bass and cleaner sound. I was driving myself nuts deciding which was better for nearly 6 months until 650 came out ahead by a hair. Now madness starts all over with 5000, 650 and RS1, there can be only one.
