Well, you still need an amp. But my portable rig is my iMod iPod -> practical devices xmoy amp -> UE super.fi 3's and it sounds sooooo sweet. I can only imagine what the 10's would be like plugged-in to the same electronics.

Wow, a response direct from the man! I'm impressed. Since I asked about the pigtail, I've fallen in love (just from reading about it) the PA2V2, so that shouldn't be a problem anymore.

I wouldn't want to use it as my main source as I wouldn't have a remote, but it would suffice as a main source until I got a nice CDP.

I would also want to use the iPod in my car by connecting it to my HU. This mod wouldn't affect the ability to do that, would it?

Thanks!

Vinnie R., I've read thru your webpage and the positive comments so far about the iMod makes it very tempting. Just one question, on your webpage you state that the mods will be only performed on 4 gen ipods, is there any chance you would be flexible on this and say perform the mods on a 5 gen ipod?

That's a good question, 'cause I don't know where to find a G4 now. I'm sure it'll be harder late this year when I'm actually ready to buy one!

Vinnei has stated before that the 5G can't effectively be modded, and that he doesn't do them.

So buy a 4G iPod on eBay and have them ship it directly to Vinnie

i am glad you are enjoying your imod
i hope your excellent review, along with Skylab's, as well
as my own brief 'review' will go a long way in popularizing this

One last question on the iMod. What exactly happens to the docking connections? I suppose that the ability to upload and download from the iPod aren't affected, but what about connecting the iPod to a car audio head unit via an iPod adapter? Is that capability at all affected by the mod?

Thanks!

No audio passes from the dock connector. It functions normally for charging and upload download though, of course.

Also, if you use a cassette adaptor with the iPod, it may not work well after the iMod. It overloaded my cassette adapter with too much signal, much as itr would if you used the headphone out of a normal iPod and had the volume all the way up. It's possible that it's unique to my setup.

But this is a small price to pay for the excellent sound you get. I just use the Nano in the car now

Tire screech

You're comparing using thirty dollar headphones?! PX-100s are great. I have a set myself. But I can't imagine why you would spend all that money on an iPod, mod, amp and cable and use a low end set of headphones. That's completely backwards.

See ya

I'm afraid I'm out, then. The MAIN reason I want an iPod is so I can use it in my car and stop having to change CDs. Oh well.

I use my ipod in the car connected to my Pioneer deck using a Rat Shack mini to RCA cable connected to the aux. inputs on the deck, sound is awesome. The iStore sells a connector that connects to factory decks for most auto's but sells for $179. Folks at Best Buy hooked up my auxilary cable for free took 5 minutes, and the cable was $35.00

Cheers,
Robert
