Hi all :)

I rather foolishly went out this weekend and bought some Klipsch X10i's having read that the mic but not buttons would work with my android powered HTC desire z. Although the middle button is recognised by android the mic does not work :frowning2:

Even worse the store I bought from does not offer refunds on headphones!

The headphones sound great and are a huge leap from my 2-3 year old sure SE210's but I can't live without a mic.

Is there any hope for getting the mic working with the desire z? I don't mind if none of the buttons work if that makes any difference?! It seems like with only four rings on the plug assuming there are 4 in the phone (standard free headset has 4) there must be a way to "convert" the Klipsch x10i's to work??

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated otherwis I will have to e bay these beauties :frowning2:

Thanks :)

If you haven't returned it, there is a way you can still use it. Basically the pin-outs for mic are reversed for IPhone headsets compared to 'standard' headsets. Android is 'standard'. Nokia used to do the same trick. More money for Apple/Steve Jobs :)

Anyway, what you need is a pin-out converter. I use this one.

its pricey, but it will make all Iphone jacks work with non-Iphone devices.

According to many posts I've read, as well as this page (https://www.meelec.com/Articles.asp?ID=155), HTC android phone should work with iphone-compatible headset's mic.
However, my own HTC G2 (American T-Mobile's version of Desire Z) just doesn't work with any mic I have tried, even though the button and sound are just fine. So far I have tried Klipsch, Monster, Maximo, Ultimate Ears, but none of the mic works, while G2'S stock HTC headset is the only one with working mic.
If you found a way around it, please let me know too.

The G2 is a special case - read near the bottom of the MEElec page you linked up. If the Desire Z uses the same hardware, it might require a similar solution.

I think that is an error, because G2 (and newer htc phones) use microUSB. It might've been referring to an older Tmobile Mytouch phone that was unofficially called g2.
A review here also claims incompatibility with G2: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/cr/B0029QM7FE/ref=aw_d_cr_wireless

Hi all, Thanks for al the replies...

I have bought another pair of Klipsch headphoes as an interim solution and spare set while I decide what to do. They are the Klipsch S2m which are sold only through amazon but are the same as the Klipsch X1m. I can confirm that the mic and the one button that they feature works with my desire Z.

The sound is very good but not a subtle or powerfull as the X10i.

I may try one of the adaptors suggested and see if it works. Sanoran can you confirm which pone and headset you have found this adapter to work with?

Thanks,

Alex

If you want to try one more adapter, MEElectronics makes one as well  It works the same way be swapping the ground and mic connections so it'll work with your phone.  IDK if it'll be any better, but it's worth a try: http://www.meelec.com/MEE_TRRS_Adapter_for_P_Version_Headphones_p/adptr-trrs-35.htm
