Your 22, and if you want to hide the purchase
from your parents, I assume you still live at home.
If not, and your parents are not helping you
financially in other ways, then it doesn't
matter if they approve of your spending or not.

Since you have your own credit card, perhaps
you should get yourself a checking account as well.

If your parents are helping with schooling
or living expenses, while you buy yourself
new audio gear, frankly they have a reason
to be interested in how your money gets spent.
At 22 you should be taking care of yourself
or at least contributing as much as you can!
If you are providing all your own economic support,
perhaps they are just trying to give you good advise (save for the future, etc); you can
listen to their advise and still do whatever you want.

Then people say don't lie to your parents,
but, it is OK to lie to your wife. Give me a break!
No wonder divorce rate is so high!

What happened to honesty in life? It is expected
that teenagers lie to their parents, that is
part of the seperation process. But after that
you've got to come clean. Do you want your
future wife and kids lying to you?

Oh well. Its your life not mine. Do what you

You would like for use to tell you the truth about cans and other equitment. Yet you want to lie. If you would lie to your parents then I think that you would lie to me also. In fact you just might be a lier period. Now I know that this is harsh and that you are young and I dont mean to insult you. I mean for you to look at your self and realize that to get respect you tell the truth. You are the one who did what you did so ok thats what you did but to lie about it dirties the whole thing. To gain self respect you start by being truthfull. Tell your parents the truth and if they fell that you were wrong then work it out with them. They might not be as mad as you think that they will. The truth will set you free.

I'm the one that's 22, not Matthew. And when I say my parents bitch, I'm exaggerating slightly, as are a lot of us in this thread.

Matthew's just voicing his frustration with the fact that his parents won't approve of his purchase, and since a lot of us have been there (some with their wives as well

I still think the "Golden Rule" is the way to go.
Probably you and most others feel the same way.

Tell them the truth. I always found it harder to be angry at my kids when they were honest. When you start telling lies and hiding things and when they find out it will all that much harder to gain their trust. It doesnt need to be an adversarial relationship.

Believe it or not your parents have done the same thing, spent money on something that was more than they could afford because they wanted it.

I gave this advice to my kids and another young man here a while back.

Before you do something (or lie etc) think how you would feel if it were printed in the local paper for all to see the next day. Be honest with your answer and you won't go wrong too many times.

Doing the right thing isn't always the easiest thing but in the long run you will be better off
