I currently own the Phillips Fidelio X1. Do I need a desktop amp?

The Schiit Modi/Magni combo would be your best bet for $200. The O2/ODAC combo is also a great choice but it's going to put you over your $200 mark at $279. From what I have read you there isn't a huge difference between the Schiit stack and the O2/ODAC.

I have just got the X1 and am really impressed by their capabilities. I realise you said you didn't want a portable but I'm using the Fiio e18 and it sounds really good with the stock cable on high gain. Just a bit sad that I recently got the Hd650 which seem to be overshadowing everything at the moment.
