Fantastic! How about finding me a job while you're at it?

does your computer have a via chipset? have you tried plugging the neeon on a different computer? if you have no access to another pc, tru picking up a usb hub. and make sure that it doesn't have a via chipset.

I've also used other mass storage devices (flash drives, an el-cheapo OLED mp3 player) that had no problem on my computer.

And this is WinXP we're talking about, which I've never had any problems with in the past with USB devices of any sort. Which makes me believe that I simply got a dud.

thats strange. my neeon works without software of any sort. it is detected as an external hard disk and i just drag songs into it. i have sold it to my friend since, and he also did not need to install any software for it to work either.

I have an Asus A7N8X Deluxe motherboard, which has the nVidia nForce II chipset, not a VIA chipset. edit: Ack! Nevermind. This thing does have a VIA PCI to USB enhanced host controller, which is what you were referring to. So I'd have to buy a USB hub without that chipset to work around it?

In other news, the problem is now officially on MY computer, as this thing works just fine on my neighbor's WinXP setup. Blerg. It might have been easier just to export it to Singapore.

Eur-freakin'-eka.

So once I realized that the problem wasn't on the Neeon but rather my own computer, it was time to dip into the device manager and registry to see what all was hidden in there that could be clogging up the works. I found some rather good instructions from a Microsoft rep at Experts Exchange, specifically in that thread I linked there. Basically, once I cleaned out all the excess USB-related drivers and registry data, the Neeon mounted without a hitch.

Now I can actually get to listening to this thing. First impression...it really is as slow as it's rumored to be. But I've been using an el-cheapo Taiwanese OLED-based flash drive that didn't even have menu capabilities for a while, so this is ironically an improvement. And hey, my Shure E4s are coming today. Huzzah!

Alright, I'm in a better mood now. Thanks everyone for your suggestions and support. I'll post impressions in this thread once I get a good chance to listen.

What I wanna say might not be helpful for you, but I am very sure the problem comes from you PC, based on my experience in PC and mass storage.
