I'm 48 hours into my search for a new DAP, and I can tell I'm headed the same direction.

I think you mean "pico or predator". To be fair to RSA, you have to put the predator up against the pico.

Get the Clip, get Yuin OK2, and run away very, very fast. Don't look back.

Your wallet will thank you.

Im still not completely sure but the ipod mini with cf mod has still held its place as something that I would enjoy very much mainly because I would have the chance to open it up and mod it which will be great I am sure. ultimately I am still not sold on anything.... anybody else out there as crazy indecisive as I am?

You are indecisive? I too have been on this forum now for months and the only thing I've purchased is a hard drive. I can not decide on IEM's or the portable amp. I think I know what I want but I keep waiting for the next iPod to come out, knowing that the 6G is at the end of its cycle. I am hoping that the next iPod will have a digital out so I can bypass its DAC. No need to buy anything until I am sure. You should do the same. I do not have a lot of money so this is a one time deal for me and my rig is going to have to last me for years. I want to get it right.

i got the fiio amp because it was the cheapest/smallest one. not much decision making there.

but yeah, you can always return something if you dislike it, so don't spend months trying to figure out what to buy.

ZOMG DIGITAL OUT?????

yeah this is my sentiment exactly. even when tax return comes around this is a one shot deal. after the next big purchase I wont be making much more for a long while so sayest my wife.

hmm digital out huh? would that make the 7th gen plus an awesome dac/amp like the pico better than the imod? but damn they will probably never support flac.... shame... because if this is true then it might outweigh my dedication to flac and Ill just re-rip everything to alac....

just realized that is a dumb question. are there any pico/predator like dac/amps that have a digital input other than usb? because if the 7th gen ipod has a digital out it will probably be a optical or something entirely different right?

No, what you said about the Pico having a DAC is not dumb at all. How can inquisitive questions be dumb when this is what the forum is for? You can't use the DAC on these amps because there still is no way to bypass the iPod's DAC with a portable system. Yes, if the next generation iPod provides some way to bypass its DAC, that would be great. Right now, it is a pipe dream, but if Apple has figured out a way to do it with Wadia then at least it gives us hope. You never know. But waiting is good, and why not just enjoy the process? I am. Since I joined this forum a few months ago I have shifted my preferences a few times and I am glad I did not jump the gun. At first, I wanted Shure SE530's, then the UE11's, then UE Triple Fi 10's, and now M-Audio's version of the Triple Fi's. They are silver rather than blue. Maybe I will change something else later but I am enjoying the process. So I am still music-less on my subway commutes. I dream.
