So the new firmware is out and improved R10. Could someone here try to compare it with other players?

I'm planning to get Schiit Valhalla for my HD650 as external amp for R10. Is it considered an upgrade from R10's amp? and worth getting? any helps would be great

  R10 has really strong amp.

I know,  I like it a lot on HD650 but I never tried those desktop amp especially tube amp, heard good review saying it's made for HD650. Wondering R10 is really better than Valhalla?

Hi piotrekfronc,

Tried following the instructions but my player doesn't seem to go into download mode. I've switched the unit off, pressed the volume up and then the reset (which is definitely working) and it doesn't switch on. Then when connected it comes on and then has the normal screen for connecting to a pc (with the option to turn on USB mode).

The rockchip doesn't seem to detect it at all. Any advice? Am I doing something wrong? How do I know if it is download mode? Also- the drivers- are they for the rockchip program? I don't asked to install anything....Help- would like to try this better sounding firmware!

I have the same with my dx100. I followed few variations of the instruction how to make dx100 into this special mode. None of them worked for me. I'm getting the same result as you. I'm using Win7.

Not sure if the DX100 and R10 update the exact same way buy I've updated my R10's firmware several times by copying the .img file directly to its internal memory over usb. Then, after selecting to turn off usb mode and disconnecting cable, it detects the file and asks if I want to update.

The DX100 will update its own firmware this way also. However, the r10 Russian fw requires the special update tool as it is not detected as a valid FW file.

I actually installed the Russian made firmware on my R10 a few weeks ago (was running version 8.0.3 prior). I copied the unzipped file "update.img" to my r10's internal memory (no subfolder) and after touching the screen the to turn off usb mode it prompted me for the update (hadn't even removed the usb cable yet).

Btw, the new firmware does noticeably improve the sound and my r10 definitely responds faster. Even the screen fonts are better.
