If you're looking for a headphone that is well driven by ipod and laptop, consider the Denon AH-D1100.

I know you are already considering the D2000, but everyone agrees an amp is required for them.

D1100 have great bass, soundstage and instrumen separation. They are also very comfortable.

Yeah  but i'm sure not a better bass than the HFI 580

Stepping up from the 580 is going to the Pro 900.

And on another note, do not use a frequency curve to justify bass. Look at the Pro 900's frequency curve and compare it to other headphones that are supposed to have big bass. You'll notice it's not as huge, as for example, as the XB series from Sony. Yet the bass is phenomenal. There's way more to it than just frequency response curve measurements. Cup, isolation, drive position, etc, all matter. And the DT770 Pro's are monstrous with bass, I wouldn't even begin to say they're not as meaty unless you've worn them. I have them all so I have actually listened.

Very best,

So HFI 580 are meatier if i remmeber correctly right? Sweet.

btw, HFI 580 or http://cgi.ebay.com/Ultrasone-DJ1-S-Logic-Surround-Sound-Pro-Headphones-/300573467553?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item45fb9323a1

they are both HALF of the 900 pro.

I haven't tried the HFI 580s so I couldn't say if the bass is better than D1100.

It would be a question of personal preference, i'm sure.

Like I said, give the D1100 a try. Then you can judge for yourself.

Anyone recommended the Audio Technica Pro700 MK2? I know a member that recently compared those and the D1100 A to B (unamped). He concluded that the Pro700 MK2 has more overall bass... Just a thought. Although, I've heard comfort on the Pro700 MK2 is pretty bad until you replace the pads with M50 ones. I have some arriving tomorrow with M50 pads so I'll let you know if you'd like.

yeah but most people prefer the 580 to that.

lol I think you want the 580's. I'd say it's between the 580's and the D1100's (although the Pro700 Mk 2's sound interesting). Now I haven't tried the 580's. I had the D1100's and they definitely have powerful, impactful bass and a nice/wide soundstage. Not to mention, they have to be one of the most comfortable, portable circumaurals on the market (kind of regret trading mine). The m50's have good detail and tight bass, but may not have enough bass for a basshead. It's there but subtle and low.

Now I've read that the 580's have more and better bass than the M50's.. how much more, I'll never know till I try them. The D1100's are worth trying out IMHO.

Never tried the D1100s but I have heard they have more bass than the D2000s. If that's true you wont be let down by them. Oh and yes Denons feel like pillows on your ears btw.

OP only wants BASSSS BAAASSSS and MOOOAAR BASSSSSS

Therefore the HFI-580 might not be up to his satisfaction, though they provide the perfect signature required for electronic. But as stated, he wants bass, so I change my vote to the ATH Pro700.

Exactly. The 580 only has a slight advantage over the M50 with bass, and the M50 isn't satisfactory for a basshead at all. I have no idea why the OP is so stuck on the 580...

OP, take a look at crinacle's (the guy right there ^) comparison of the 580 and Pro700 MK2.
http://www.head-fi.org/forum/thread/556509/review-battle-of-the-entry-level-rivals-ultrasone-hfi-580-vs-audio-technica-m50-vs-pro700-mk2

Look at the way he describes the bass of the Pro700 MK2 and how it beats out the 580. He even goes on to rival it with the bass of the XB500. You're crazy if you want to pass that up and you call yourself a basshead. Frankly, 580 isn't really that much of a basshead 'phone until it's paired with a proper bass-boosting amp or EQ (like the ZO for example).

If you're literally ONLY concerned about bass, just get the XB500 and be done with it. That's not to say the XB500's are bad at everything else, but if you listen to a lot of bass-heavy electronica I don't think you'll even care haha.

You'll be spending more than you have to, and you'll be disappointed, with headphones like the HFI-580 and M50's, which have good bass but don't entirely focus on it.

I wonder why would people even bother to answer this, if the OP search it there would be plenty of reviews on them, open a new thread is not going to get a different answers on this.
