Hurricane Katrina Poised to Flood Big Easy...

Our National Guard, and our Search and Rescue teams were used in the aftermath of the Kobe, Japan, Earthquake Destruction...

THERE WAS NO LOOTING, NO RAPING, virtually NO CRIME THERE.....

Nice live journal...

But...How do you get injured "Jumping from windows to escape the flood"...?

When WATER rises, it is a soft target if you jump from less than four stories up...

And, why would you jump from dry into the flood watersw, in order to escape them?

just a thought - the rest of the journal seems good...

The censorship filters are in place for a reason. Please do not bi-pass them.

That is what would happen if they stopped.

Think!

You are more worried about the car than about the people??!?

That is a total, and perhaps Malicious? interpretation of what I had to say...the car is a tool that is there to help the officer cover more area, a force multiplier. He is limited to walking distance without it...that is known if only peripherally by anyone familiar with police work. I, nor the police care a whit for the car itself...it is to be sacrificed if it serves the public's need. But, in this circumstance, the car is an important tool needed to transport the officer to anywhere he is needed.

..aaand a lot of the Police's cars were hors de combat due to the flooding of their garages - every car is a precious resource...they are down to commandeering private cars and private boats, and gasoline from other's vehicles to keep what they have running...

Actually, no. New Orleans would've fared much better had it been nuked by terrorists. Terrorists would be limited to gun type uranium or plutonium implosion nukes of the sort and yield of those dropped on Japan. They'd be lucky to put together a 50 kiloton device, more likely the yield will be in the 5-20 kiloton range. Plug the numbers into a nuclear effects calculator and then overlay the circles of destruction over a map of New Orleans. This is a crude version of the "pie cutter charts" used by nuke targeteers when they make plans for incinerating cities off the map. Now that you have those circles, look at the area of destruction caused by the hurricane & flooding.

The hurricane & flooding caused far more damage over a more widespread area. You'll need multi-megaton thermonuclear fusion devices to cause that level of damage.

...and not shown by anyone, are the private efforts that are happening under the noses of the so-called media:

The American Baptist S(omething) Conference sent three meal trucks into the area, and they are making 20,000 meals a day at each one, this effort was in operation the next day, and is still there...

The Methodists, the Mormons, and the Catholics are all doing something similar, and have been doing so since Tuesday...

Meals alone, are being served to more than 50,000 people a day, but the media seems to want to focus on just the Federal Government's response...

New Orleans Government knew of the threat, and had an interest in making it safe for YEARS, but did nothing....

Louisiana Government knew of the threat for years, but did nothing...

I blame the people first, they had the time and notice and means to leave, but did not, in spite of the Order (and Begging) of their Mayor....furthermore, they have been on notice, at least since Hurricanes were invented, to have emergency food and water and supplies on hand for three days, and certainly since 9/11, there have been innumerable news articles, magazines, radio programs, public information programs on being prepared for disasters...

National Geographic was on this exact issue (Hurricanes/Flooding/Levees) in last year's August issue....

I blame the City Government after the people, as they are charged with protecting the interests of their constituents...they did nothing for years...

Any residual blame due is due to the Louisiana Government, they are likewise sworn to protect and defend their State's Citizens...

The N.O.P.D. does not feel they are supported, and are turning in their badges by the hundreds...

The Louisiana National Guard is under the SOLE DIRECTION of the Louisiana Governor - Everybody knows there is looting - Why have we not heard of any Guard Shootings??? The Governor has not issued the order - that is all it would take....

The Army Corps of Engineers is in there somewhere, but I think that their role in maintenance of the levees was turned over mostly to the State/City back in the Clinton regime...I could be wrong....

The U.S. Government is least liable, as it is not supposed to meddle in States' affairs, but instead protect the interests of the U.S. as a whole...Only at the request of the Governor can the Feds go in - they are now there...

Yup, there is serious desperation out there among survivors that they are willing to kill each other to get what they need to survive. Like it has been mentioned earlier desperation is so bad that survivors mob whatever relief effort comes their way in order to survive.

They have nowhere to go, no power, and will end up with no supplies at this rate. They should just spare us the time and shoot themselves since they will die anyway as long as they continue to work against relief efforts. I don't understand what end they could possibly be fighting towards?? There is no city left for them to have! We would be seeing better relief results if it weren't for these faukers!

I say get the rest of the survivors out by day and then VX gas the rest!

Seems to me that these people were VERY poor and had to fight to stay alive every single day of there life. Don't even know what getting help is like and basicly were forced to think of thereselfs over others for their survival. Now the situation has gotten so much worse and the only way they know how to deal with it is like they've done their whole lifes. Think of yourself first and fight.

We can get angry now at the trouble makers, the lack of help, the lack of prevention in so many areas. But the only thing anyone can do now is try to help as best as possible. All other energy you put into it is wasted energy at the moment.
When the emergengy is over it's time to get angry at what could have been done better. Time to learn what needs to be done to prevent this happening again.

My hearts goes out to all affected and to every single person in the US for such a tragedy happening in your country.
