Hugo M Scaler by Chord Electronics - The Official Thread

I have a Zenith with Roon and the squeezebox option enabled. I prefer outputting direct to HMS from the Zenith (using Supra USB 2.0 cable). I also have an Aries in another room and use this as an endpoint to the system in there but I do prefer the direct connection from Zenith to HMS.
Please excuse me if this has been asked before, but does the Zenith work with DSD Native in Roon into Chord dacs, or do you have to use DoP?

My ZENith Mk2 SE outputs to the DAVE or to the M Scaler via DoP through Roon. I have checked it up to DSD256 (upper limit for ZENith Mk2) and it works smoothly.

As I understand it, DoP is not a "conversion", rather an encapsulation of the DSD format in PCM form which does not compromise sound quality over the direct DSD. The drawback is an increase of the data throughput, which based on Innuos specs does not allow to go to DSD512 even with the ZENith Mk3, which can support DSD512 only in direct mode and on selected DACs.

Out of interest are you playing direct from Zenith into HMS or via Aries as some seem to do ? I have read claims that SQ is improved Zenith - Aries - HMS. I am considering Zenith III or Aries G1 less for Roon which i am not signed up to but for playing local files presently. stored on a USB HDD.

I have tried Roon direct to HMS/DAVE vs server-only with Aries endpoint. I could not tell a difference so I sold the Aries. Though I have also read many claims that separate server/player is typically better as you mention. But one box > two box for me personally if I feel no SQ sacrifice. I think the Zenith has become a great cornerstone to my setup, feature rich and fantastic SQ.

Thank you for responding to my query.. Based on what yourself and @Triode User have said regarding the Zenith III I will arrange to demo one at home.

In my case 10 g but I got comped for half price. It’s seriously worth it, you won’t need Dave unless you want to drop 15 g well plus 13% so 16500 g. It’s not zenith

that's true, there is worse
Still better than dcs or esoteric , they need another clock unit to sound best!

I think msb even worse, you have to upgrade to the upper range power supply.

Looking at two music servers to feed my MS - Wyred4Sound MS and Antipodes CX - does anyone have experience of either one?
