Did anybody try using a DC voltage regulator together with a battery like PP2? In theory, this would combine perfect RF isolation of HMS with better voltage regulation.

For example, DXP-1A5S (link below) could be powered by a Poweradd PP2 and could provide 1.5A at 15V, which should theoretically be enough power for HMS:

I`m using this regulator for my opticalRendu. My Keces P8 LPSU have a 9V output. DXP-1A5S is set to 7V. With regulator my Rendu runs less warm and SQ is also better. Not big improvement, but still better.

You can buy a regulator with 15V output and use PP2 on 16V setting, should be good. M Scaler consumes 0,9A in standby and 1,1A when working.

RFI / EMI noise? Folks I'd like to understand why people are fussing about this. If you want to get rid of noise you have to start with your power sources, power cables and connection cables.

It's not cheap to eliminate it but if you have the means; psi audio power regenerators are a start and help tremendously. Next power cords properly isolated; I use less loss and also some 7N silver cables, bnc interconnects are also an issue. If you can afford to buy better interconnects definitely do so. Also a USB jitter remover , word clock all those make a difference... my system is noise free

I would agree the IFI products do actually work I have a elaborate setup and even though some would consider the IFI solutions cheap for what I'm using they do work.

Thank you. I would actually say that is the definitive reply. I am obviously very tempted by the M-Scaler. However the potential issue of RFI has been my stumbling block so far. It's part of the reason why I have not got an M-Scaler. One other factor is, I don't feel I need one because I love the TT2 so much. Am still curious though, and have inquired if there is a home demo from the store I bought TT2 from.

I realise not everyone might be affected by RFI. Some M-Scaler users are straight outright happy without any RFI filtering. I am also holding out with the M-Scaler because of one post that Rob Watts made earlier. It makes me hopeful for an M-Scaler 2. Rob was asked why he didn't use USB to connect the M-Scaler to the DAC. He replied it would have taken another year to develop. I think he said he wanted to get the M-Scaler to market, but I might have only thought was his reasoning. (I can't remember.) I am sort of left holding on, and hoping that Rob does continue to develop USB. We know we can filter out noise from USB easily.

It is of course worth me investigating a home demo of M-Scaler. I can try and establish if in my set-up, whether RFI is having an affect or not.

There's a simple solution for your worries eliminate RFI before it hits the USB input. Problem solved...... the USB and BNC inputs have galvanic isolation already built in... so eliminating RFI see my post above... I had the mk2 blu before I had the mscaler and the mscaler does sound better. Also regardless of Rob Watts develops for the USB input, it will never eliminate noise completely if you don't do it at the source

i can confirm that with my HMS, 24/192 works very reliably with some toslink cables, and not at all with others. I haven’t had an in between

with ~1m toslink cables, both generic Amazon and Lifatec ($$) work great. When I tried a ~4m Lifatec it did not work.

i did not do a full eval to see shorter cables are better. Just sharing my N=3 experiences.

My 4 meter Lifatec works great with the X10T ii as the source to HMS. I haven't tried it with anything else though.

My Cable Matters did not work above 24/96.

All "RFI problem" is not a "problem" really. All these measures to lower RFI level are like polishing your Porsche with carnauba wax. Nice thing, but you don`t have to do this. M Scaler is a great upgrade even with stock cables.

Can we flag the acronyms RFI and EMI as offensive in this thread and have the moderators immediately delete the posts so we can all live happier lives and read about impressions with different headphones/amps and sound quality? Pleeeease?:)

I was not talking about USB RFI. The RFI was talking about has been discussed extensively over the last few pages.

Well that's why I was inquiring about at a home demo, too see how it is in my placement. I know some folk do say they have no probem with RFI.

No. Great for you if you do not have RFI problems. I can understand you think we are just making it up if it is not an issue in your own set up.

For those of us who do have serious problems, I can promise you it is not being finicky, like polishing your Porsche. In my audition tests the RFI distortion seriously and obviously masked the improvement I knew the M Scaler could make from hearing it elsewhere. I already have high quality power cords, power supplies, interconnect cables etc. But more is needed, whether that be optical isolation, ferrites, or something else. The M Scaler is truly susceptible, in my particular domestic setup and, I would say, that of many others who have posted here. It could be my electricity company, my neighbours ... who knows.

The posts on here have helped me understand what the causes might be and what approaches work best. So don't stop them. If you are one of the lucky ones, just be patient with us while we get it sorted. Thanks.

Yeah no way, stop all RFI discussion.

If it were not for folk discussing it, I would have no idea how to mitigate it RFI. Were I to buy an M-Scaler. People are sharing gold here.

RFI affects all hifi, especially digital sound. The great thing about the M-Scaler is that it sounds amazing out of the box and proceeds to improve with every upgrade.

Well, in my case it certainly was like that.

I mean, I’ve heard SQ improvement from new cables, balanced mains unit (highly recommended) and linear PSUs. With all that upgrades my setup sounds better, but I can’t say anything bad about M Scaler itself. I can only say that some accessories do improve sound. And I assume all hifi gear would improve with better power and cables.

yes agreed. I don't have rfi on my setup but again not everyone has the means to get there it takes time and money
