Yeah, tinnitus is really frustrating. Thank you mentioning your diagnosis of diabetes. That got me to thinking about the blood sugar issues I’ve been dealing with in the past year. My diet is usually ok, although nothing great, but last night I had a dinner that was heavy in pasta. My tinnitus went from mildly annoying to quite loud. It was still quite loud when I got up this morning. As an experiment, I exercised more than usual. While my blood sugar is still higher than I’d like, the tinnitus has calmed down quite a bit.
I’m guessing that the level of tinnitus might be a good indicator of blood sugar levels getting out of control and some physical activity might be needed to bring it down. Going for a walk or a bike ride seems to help the situation. I’d be curious to hear if you have any thoughts about what might help here.
You know something, I never ever thought about the level of blood sugars in your body could influence how good or bad ones tinnitus can be on any given day. I just thought diabetes made it worse and I never thought about if the tinnitus was controllable to a degree by lowering sugar levels. Meaning that by bringing blood sugar levels down, it would also bring the tinnitus volume level down.
So I’m going to write down my sugar levels after tests and opposite them the severity of my tinnitus at that time, and do that over the space of a few weeks or a month to see if there is a connection between high blood sugars levels and loud tinnitus, and low blood sugars levels and low volume tinnitus.
So thank you for your post, as I never thought too much about it after the ENT Department at the hospital told me that there was nothing they could do, they didn’t even mention what you have in your post, but your post has gave me hope and a new avenue to explore and I even though what you said is extremely obvious, I just never even thought about doing that.
Bro you have done me a solid, as if what you say works, the higher the blood sugars are = the louder the tinnitus sounds, I really will work to get my bloods down to the levels that they should be, between 4.5 - 7.5 mmol, as mine are usually in the 12 to 22 mmol regions. What can I say ? I like my sweets and chocolate too much and I just thought that I could eat the same as before because the 3 meds I’m on would compensate for it. Which sadly is not the case.
If what you say works, I really will be owe you one. Fingers crossed that this may get me back to enjoying my hobby again, but many thanks for your post bro
Just to add, everyone here is obviously in to our hobby big time, so please take care of your hearing or your expensive hobby and it’s hardware may become useless to you.
1, Don’t listen to loud music using headphones or earphones and iem’s.
2, Don’t listen to loud music when sitting or standing next to speakers.
3, Hearing Damage usually isn’t immediately obvious unless it’s something extreme, so you might not notice you’ve damaged your hearing permanently until much much later.
4, Gently syringe your ears every few months with a gentle ear irrigating machine, it does not hurt and it’s only warm water that cleans the outer ear and any wax is removed. NEVER EVER use Cotton Buds or Q Tips to clean out your ears, as you’re asking for trouble by using them.
5, The most important thing is, if you notice a change in your hearing, or if your tinnitus is getting louder or you need to turn the volume up on your TV or music and you don’t know why, see your GP immediately, as whatever the cause it may easily be fixed, for example it may be a sinus or an ear infection, leaving it can cause permanent damage.
