I thought I couldn't afford 'em, but should have bid.

It seems very expensive for a headphone similar to HF2,I felt you wanted to sell your T1 for some personal reasons, was it because you've been over the T1.

The sound signature of the HP1000 is nothing like the HF2.

Regarding the auction it almost seems too good to be true. Like it may be a hijacked account. Check the sellers feedback. All they have sold is model cars.

I don't think HP1 are similar to HF2.

Edit: Subtle has already said it....

It's funny that's such a good deal these days. I bought and sold my mint pair for 850 a few years ago.

And I, a set of HP-2 for $650 a couple more years before that. They actually were a great deal, back then.

Funny how they were like $1000-$1200 before that, and then the introduction of the PS-1 and HD650 dropped them way the hell down under $700, then they went up and stayed up ever since.

Well, I for one have just gotten an education. Thanks, everybody. It had never occurred to me that, in the HP series, the numeric sequence counted down rather than up.

Sure looks like a clean pair of HP1s, with all (or at least most) lettering intact.
The price looks fair as well, in respect of what they tend to sell for these days. Some certainly have done greater deals though.

That's why-

HP-1 with polarity switches $595
HP-2 same as HP-1 without polarity switches $495
HP-3 same as HP-2 but lesser tolerances $395
(sonically about 85% as good as the HP-2)

*taken from paperwork that came with the phones*

Some say HP-2 sound better than HP-1 because of the cleaner signal path. I can't tell. Joe Grado himself admitted that HP-3 also don't sound worse than HP1 and2 even though the drivers were not matched as carefully as the other two.
Maybe the only HP1000s that are sonically superior to the others would be the ones that were modded by Joe(They do sound better).
