Hey head-fi.
I'm not particularly sure how to say shure (no pun intended...)
is it shaw/shore/sure or shoe-er?
Any help in clearing this up would be greatly appreciated...

I always end up saying shooer, but cant help feel it is incorrect.

The Shu is pronounced like CHORE. The ure is pronounced URIO. How is that possible? There's a silent accent tréma over the h, and a nonstressed accent aigu over the e. Neither are actually written.

It all comes together to sound astoundingly like churrio. It's about as useless as an accordion on a duck hunt to argue this point.

I'm saying sure, as in /ʃʊə(ɹ)/

Wow! Phonetic spelling and everything!

Sadly, I'm probably in the minority of people who can read the phonetic alphabet.
