Got bored so decided to recable my ES7 using 18awg hi grade spc
18awg for headphone is the usual recommendation
so this is a simple guide which generally most headphones can follow
disclaimer - this guide only for those who dare cos u may damage ur headphones driver or any other things
laying out the 4x18awg 1.2m wires, notice one of the white sleeve is marked with a masking tape to differentiate left/right signal, while black wires are both return
clamp at one end for easy braiding later
marking where wires should split (30-45cm fr headphones would be enough)
mount on sth abt your height or lower so easier to braid (your choice of braiding litz or chain)
i used a variation of chain braiding so wires dont end up flat
done up with monster cable splitter for deco, u can use heat shrink instead
if u are making for earphones dont forget to insert ur cable management here too
the patient before transplant
remove the earpad
this was taken from a senn hd25 -1 so got extra foam
remove all will reveal screws
unscrew both other earphones may be diff - notice tt right signal (red) left signal (green) copper return
easiest way to ensure which is signal mark the side with a marker
unsolder and remove the strain relief (easier for smaller wires)
solder the 3.5mm jack remember which side is left and right and set it accordingly
should have used canare f12 cos wires are too thick but manage to fit in
wires are too thick so have to remove the rubber grommet to fit in
solder the wires in
here do be careful and make sure all things cool down as the glue on the driver is soften and may break away from the driver rendering ur headphones useless.
something i learnt the hard way so carefully put it back in place be paitent
i also used a cable tie +heat shrink as strain relief
done and ready to be enjoyed
a nice black and white theme
sounds much better and bass department improved although for this headphone is marginal as the impedance only 32ohm for higher impedance headphones will likely be much better
only bad thing is heavier hahaha
