I've been trying to post pictures in my for-sale post for my amp, but I can't seem to get them to show up. I've managed to attach them, but I can't get them to appear in the post. Can anyone tell me how to do this?

I use photobucket.com, upload your pics to there site. Copy the code for the picture you want and then paste it to your post.

Once you uploaded the picture, it will show in the small windows as 'Current Attachments (xxx KB)' and has a link as something like "http://www.head-fi.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=...." under the file name.

Copy the link and put it in the image tag like

First upload your picture to a hosting site, like Imageshack, and copy the direct link to the image.
Then embed it in a post using BB code, like this:

To post a picture, why can't I simply click on the paper clip attachment, or the insert image icons? When I do, it tells me that my account doesn't have the necessary permissions. How do I get permissioned, or earn the necessary permissions?

I think you need to make 6 to 7 posts before u get permission to post pictures.
