i tried it before with UM2, only make the sound veiled. The bass still doesnt go deep.

Well the UM2 doesn't go very deep as it is. Balanced armatures are very limited in terms of frequency response.

Anyway, I did bump up the midrange and treble a bit as I felt it got recessed in exchange for more bass so mine's: -3,-3, -1,-1,-1

um2 i thought sounded quite decent with the d2 but... the hiss with the um2 just made me sell them. they are however slow enough to make the combo quite nice.

The best way to fix the bass roll-off is to drive it through an amp. My memory of using the EQ on my X5 was that it really increased the hiss. Trying a/b-ing the eq without music playing. Maybe the D2 is better than the X5 on this - don't know...
