I'm still struggling with the pot problem on my Porta Corda

I had made an attenuator cable to bring down the gain so I can use a better part of the pot, but just the night before yesterday they broke on me

I guess it's because of all the solder joints I had to make to accomodate the resistors for the voltage divider.

And the question is as seen on the title.

Hello,

Why don't you reduce the gain? It should be easy enough since Corda is an opamp-based headphone amp.

Or you can implement a simple voltage divider with potentiometer used for the lower resistor. Which should replace your current volume control. This way, even at full volume you will get fraction of power coming in from source.

If you decide to stick with a voltage divider, you should do it on a board. If you want air-wire, make sure your resistors are packed tight and resting on something. Then you wrap it with heatshrink. This way, resistors are gently held while aesthetically pleasing.
