Ah ok. I saw it in your sig but a lot of the time people don't list everything or something changes etc. I would say after all this that you're gonna want to change cans and amps to get the sound signature you are after.
What about something like the iFi Zen Signature 6XX stack (or even just amp)? I know there seem to be mixed reviews on it's improvement to the headphone, but this gives a nice pre-built EQ that OP could try?
Well the 5xx are a nice change of pace from the 6xx as others have discussed across the internets. Using my Valhalla 2, don’t feel the need to purchase a SS amp.
I put an aftermarket cable on my HD 6XX's and they sounded better to me. I've read about tube amps but I don't know if I want to get a separate amp for them. Then comes the tube rolling too. Seems like a lot of work.
Well two years and all the informed suggestions later I'm going option three: Schiit Asgard 3 with ES9028 DAC module and Hifiman Ananda Stealth headphones. Since ordering new equipment last week I've fallen in love with my Valhalla 2 and Senn 6xx again...

I'm reading my post from February and thinking I was wrong on that one. My Vali 2++ has woke them up and I also got another tube from Santa. So, I've become the person that I didn't want to be. Lol.
