How the heck do you begin a divorce?

Well, "my friend" was begged to go out with his wife again and was has been humiliated in public 3 times tonight, AGAIN. There aren't many assets or anything left. It's all been spent on "make up, clothes, and tanning" I doubt "He" has enough money to get a lawyer and pay for storage and moving truck and all that jazz. The "poor guy" doesn't have much left. "He's" down with liquidating assets (selling table saws and mills), cashing in the 401K but, what comes first? MOVE OR FILE FOR DIVORCE? Is there such a thing as free consultation? I really feel for "this guy"

Tell him to see if there is a family member that can possibly help him out financially with a lawyer or at least help to get the ball rolling. Then, the lawyer can guide him from that point regarding what to do about the house etc....(this isn't going to be pretty especially if she is ideed vindictive).

I'm really sorry to hear this ! It's brings back bad memories with my first wife who was a very one sided selfish individual.

I got free consultation at first, however, nothing was done or accomplished till the lawyer received money from me.

I was in my mid 20's and had to borrow money from my Grandmother and move in with her for almost a year due a limited income, lawyer fees, and nothing left for me financially for a while .

I would say move out in the morning, get a lawyer in the afternoon.
If there are no kids, make her move. Especially if he had the house before the wife. Maybe take out a loan on the house, sell off the last of his stuff, borrow money from someone/everyone. Whatever it takes. This aint' easy, and it ain't cheap.
When I kicked my wife out I didn't know or care where she went. But, when I went to work (my job takes me out of town for a day or so) I came home to a nearly empty house. She found the money somewhere to get a storage unit and stuffed it. I never saw that stuff again.
Once a guy sets it in his mind that this is the end, he must stick to it. Be firm, make sure he gets some distance away from her. It's hard to think clearly when the woman is around. If he can't get her to move out, he can stay with friends and or relatives for a while. Anything to get some away from her time.

I have never been married but I managed to get rid of my moaning bitch of a girlfriend (of 12 years) by ignoring her. Head-Fi, Headphones and a headphone amp were great tools to get rid of the sour faced old bag.

Some ideas to consider:

-Get an attorney no matter the cost
-If she is on his credit car remove her from it
-If she is on his checking account remove her from it
-Any club memberships in which she signe after him remove her from it
-Any valuables including paperwork in the house move them to a friend's house for safekeeping

You get the picture. Finally if there are any weapons in the house remove them to a friends house for safekeeping.

Good luck.

Hum there goes the «find a better lawyer strategy» through the window...

For a free consulation, his State Bar can be contacted. They sometime give reference of family law specialists that can do it for free as a community service. Some Law faculties have also free legal clinics ( there is no shortage of «wannabe lawyers» eager to help) with decent quality level advices.

Amicalement

P.S. My take on this.....since there is not much assets to lose....get the Hell out of there!!!!!!...the lawyers can wait (they always do...
