MZ-E11
MZ-E33
MZ-R55

All of these are available to me locally and I want to know how much the units are worth. Also how much is a replacement gumstick battery for each of these units?

Thanks

Hi Watchdog...

The only one I can comment on is the R55... this was out in 1999 / early 2000 at a cost of £150 / $230...

It uses standard a single NH-14WM gumstick...

I'd expect to pay about 1/3 of original retail on this recorder now??

There's something about an older, non-MDLP player that attracts my attention. Recently, I did a deal with a fellow T-Boarder for an MZ-E80. I have a lot of SP recordings in my disc collection, and I find myself gravitating back to that mode, despite the fact I like LP2. Maybe I've become an audio "purist."

You should be able to get the MZ-E11 and MZ-E33 quite cheap......

The fact that the E-11 doesn't have MDLP was a slight turnoff to me from a convenience standpoint, however if I get it cheap I think it will still be worth it.

I'm torn between using LP2 and SP (only use LP4 for comedy tracks).

I like the sound quality of SP, sometimes it's just absolutely stunning. However I have to record in real time to get SP and if it's a disc I use when exercising then 80 minutes is just not enough. I need the extra time that LP2 gives me.

I would love to get an MXD-D40 for 4X SP recordings but I'm starting to feel as if I've been spending too much money on MD. It is addictive though, especially reading posts like Duncan's

I sure wish they'd make discs with a higher capacity. I've seen MD sized discs with a 1 GB capacity and that's something I'd absolutely love to have. Actually even if the disc were only say 350 MB that would be enough for me. I figure with 350 MB you'd get roughly 200 minutes of SP quality music. That would be enough for all of my uses except perhaps a long flight. In that case I would simply slip a 5 pack into my jacket pocket and have more than enough music.

Actually I hate them all... hehe I would rather go for a MZ-E50 if I'm looking for a classic MD player...

I own the E33, its a nice MD, very warm sound, especially with the bass boost turned on. Battery life is ok, takes one AA. With the bass boost turned off, it still sounds very nice, really no need to use the bass boost at all with this unit.

I think you're right vwap...

I've seen an E45 and an E55... but never an E50?!

The R55 uses the same mechanism as the R50 if anyone is interested

Just picked up the E33 on the eBay auction for $32 USD, or $48 Cdn.

SBG - I hope that's a good price.

Others, what do you think. Did I pay market value and not get ripped off?

Well, 50 bucks for a good Sony MD player is no ripoff... I think I've seen the E33 refurbished by Sony going for around 100 bucks in downtown Toronto...

Yup I meant the E50, one of the nicest looking MD player ever by Sony... simple and super thin design... I wish they would bring back these watch like remotes...
