I met with the archive staff this morning for an hour. They promised me that a close estimate of the number of songs could be produced by this same time next year, give or take a month or two.
I'm old school and have around 5000 records (albums, 12" & 7" singles) and 500 CDs in my home... I'm fairly new to this game, so shall start burning tracks shortly to use on my MP3 player and phone for use when out and about!
Not trolling Redcarmoose, just really impressed, I love vinyl.
Updating my collection 300GB of hi-res audio with a mix of 24/44 and 24/96, 100GB of mp3's (256 and 320), and 200 vinyl albums, and 400 CD's, 50 DVD and Blu-Ray concerts, 20 SACD's, 10 DVD-A
I had bit over 86k on my old school Mac laptop (2009 white model). Ended up with about 126k or so by the end of 2010 then had to return the laptop back to school and that was the final year of high school.
I don't have my music organized and most are rar'd over a RAID10 12TB array which is not in use as I lack a RAID controller on my new desktop. Around 5TB is music but not sure how many files that is. 30% of it is 3000kbit+ vinyl rips which contribute to the large file size it eats up. But over 160k is electronic music, pretty much of every electronic genre out there except foreign EDM and dubstep (a cheap imitation of dnb, sorry dub lovers). Followed by metal/rock and then classical, but I'm collecting SACD's for the latter as I have a decent SACD transport now.
I have recently culled my iTunes library to around 30 000 songs - leaving only those that I would care to listen to over and over. I am quite pedantic about new purchases now and like to preview before I buy, a complete change from my youth where I was a conspicuous consumer. . .
Musical interest is very broad but excludes atonal classical, heavy metal and disco!
I am sitting right below 2000, mainly all singles I bought with the rare full albums I really liked. If I wanted every song out there, I would just subscribe to a streaming service.
