How many pairs of headphones do you own?
Dec 10, 2011 at 2:14 AM Post #47 of 212
Currently:

T1 -home headphone when isolation isn't needed
ED8- home headphone when isolation is required
Re-Zero (IEM)-for lying in bed listening and watching movies and when I need ultra portable rig
P5 on the go straight from a DAP and around the house (not stationary)
TMA-1 on the go and into the back pack   (I don't need these, but I like their sound and it is a change from the P5 every now and again)
Sen HD 212 Pro and HD228 family computer for surfing and youtube etc.  (work colleague is looking for first step away from buds, so I will probably give the HD228 away)
PX100 my first headphone and the only one I don't use very often but will not part with

I've been through quite a few lower/mid level cans that can be seen in my profile, but the seven listed in my signature are the ones that have stuck around for one reason or another

I'm feeling lazy right now, so I copy my head- and earphone inventory from my comunity profile here on Head Fi.

Portable (semi-)closed headphones:
ATH ES10
ATH ES7(bought second hand)
Sennheiser HD25 1:II

Not very portable, but foldable, headphones:
ATH M50 (bought second hand)

Portable open headphones:
AKG K420
Sennheiser PX100

Clip-on earphones:
Pioneer SE-EX9 (bought second hand)
Yuin G2A

Earbuds:
9Wave Studio
AKG K319
ATH CM700TI (bought second hand)
Blox M2C
Sennheiser X400 (Sharp branded that I got with a broken Sharp MP3 player that I tried to repair)
Sony MDR E484 (bought second hand)
Sony MDR E464 (bought second hand)
TFTA 1101-V1
Yuin PK2
Yuin PK3

I haven't reached 20 yet, but I might get there soon...

I have sold stuff that I feel that I don't use that much. I recently sold my Sennheiser MX760 and Sunrise AS Feeling earbuds and my backup pair of PX100 along with my pair of Jays V Jays. The V Jays are great, but for an ultra portable headphone I prefer a "fun" to a "correct" sound...

Since getting the ATH ES10 I feel that I have got what I need in portable headphones. I might part with the ATH M50 since I want portable headphones and the M50 are only transportable. Also the HD25 and ES10 sound better while at the same time beeing smaller.

I like the varation of also having ultra portable headphones and clip on earphones. Also I do not need to worry too much about breaking them.

Earbuds is where I've gotten in too deep. I like exploring earbuds and since they're relatively cheap, money is not really a problem. Now I have become interested in vintage earbuds, mainly Sony and Aiwa, and then it's a bit more expensive. At least if you want a near mint pair of 20-25 year old earbuds.

I never go out drinking and I don't smoke or do drugs, so this obsessive collecting is pretty innocent when all comes around.

And yes, I try to use all of my head- and earphones.

Real headphones:  KRK KNS-8400 and Sennheiser HD 598.  Crappy headphones (including earphones) that I don't really use:  maybe six or seven.  However, I've owned a lot in the past four or five years (over fifty) that have been bought and sold.

Uncle Erik, how do the Aperio Alphas sound?

I have 14 headphones: AKG K271, AKG K4 (if it was more sensitive it'd be the best portable headphone south of the ED8 in all likelihood), Beyerdynamic DT48, Beyerdynamic DT220, eSmooth ES660 (their headband snapped :frowning2: ), Koss KSC75 (mutilated), Koss Portapro, Koss Tecnhician VFR, Philips The Stretch, Prodipe Pro800 (also snapped), Realistic Pro 50, Smeggipucks x2, Vectorscan VSH-5

IEM's are 22 in number, at least. ACS T15 (current favorite), Brainwavz M1, Brainwavz M3, eSmooth ES360, eSmooth ES530, MEElectronics A151, CC51, CW31, CX21, M16, M21, M31, M9, and SP51, Monster Turbine Pro Gold and Copper, Sony EX85, Spidercable Tinyear, XePort 3010, 5010, 7010, Ultimate Ears Super.fi 4

And I still have 10 more I want to buy. To be completely honest, my IEM's don't get much rotation, but I don't have the wanting to sell them since a large majority were review samples and selling those isn't cool, so my family gets them. The headphones are often swapped though because none of them really sound all that similar. So my total adds up to 36. And that's not even on the super high side. I can't imagine how many Joker, ClieOS, and WertherDVX have.

The more I think about this, the more I think I should have just gone with speakers.

It seems rare to find a Head-Fier with just one headphone. I guess it's mainly a mix of upgrade-itis plus good build quality. And of course, having different headphones for different uses.

You can see all of my cans in my signature, but I'll list them in the order I obtained them. Along with why I still have them.

Audio Technica EM7-GM....Great as decorations. They're so beautiful =P.
Audio Technica AD700....Perfect with binaural recordings and gaming.
Koss KSC75....Nice go-to phones.
Audio Technica M50....My main cans. For whenever I need some serious bass.
Etymotic MC5....For airplane rides and car trips...or just in case I happen to be around explosions.
MEElectric A151....Better sound than the MC5, but not as much isolation.

Most of the time, I stick to some Klipsch speakers I have. But if my bass craving kicks in, the M50 comes in handy. My other headphones, well, aren't used as much. Poor things.
