Whereas when i was younger, maybe 8 years ago, i could get my self up naturally at 6:30am...now anything before 11am will an effort just to get up.

About 7-8 hrs here. Most of the time I feel refreshed but not always. My Doc thinks i may have sleep apnea so I have to do a Polysonogram.

About three years ago I thought I was almost going crazy. I went to bed for as long as I could. I thought I was sleeping but was not. I went to the doctor and was tested for sleep apnea so I have did a Polysonogram. Now I sleep like a baby for 4-6 at a time and then some more to get about 7 hours on average of much better sleep. I use a auto-cpap with a heated humidifier. Note: cpap is "constant positive airway pressure" to hold you airway open so it will not collapse during sleep. Sleep apena causes you to never go into rem sleep, you just move around in levels 1 to 3 maybe if you even get that far. For me, it really did not wake me just keep me from going into rem. One other thing, I think a lot of older people who are reported to die in their sleep are subjects of sleep apena. It would cause them to loose O2 raising heart rates and possibly causing a heart attack or stoke as the first cause in the night.

You guys need sleep so you all should get tested....if not you will just keep getting weaker.

The only problem with cpap is that you need to learn to be compliant. The more "A" type personality you are the less you will bend to the unbending requirements for using the cpap machine and mask.

Well, if I factor in my afternoon nap (hey.....I'm old and retired), I usually get about 5-8 hours per day. The best sleep is the nap. A nice double espresso gets me going for the rest of the evening.

Anyway; don't be afraid of getting older. It takes a long time to get here, but it's not exactly the mental and physical wasteland that the media portrays it to be!

Huh? What do you mean it "takes a long time"/ It seems like just yesterday I was 18 and doing all kinds of crazy things and now in less than 2 months time I'm looking at being 50 right in the face.

I usually get around 7-8 hours of sleep a night, and that's barely enough to keep me going. If I only slept 4 or 5 hours a night, I'd either die every afternoon or be fine till Wednesday and worthless after that. I usually catch up on weekends and will sleep 10-12 hours if I don't have to get up for anything.

It's annoying needing that much sleep. It cuts down on time I could otherwise be awake doing things (or if I just stay up later for something it leaves me tired the next day). I've had long periods where I've been fully rested and still slept around 10 hours a day. If I don't have any schedule to adhere to, I'll gradually shift to where I'm going to sleep about 4am and waking up at noon or 1pm.

I get on average about 4, but then one or 2 nights a week, I get 6-7. it's totally random, and I have no idea why. I can't sleep any more than this, so i'm tired all the time.
Sometiems I even go without sleep for up to 2 nights at a time, for no apparent reason.

I still sleep as much as my kids will allow, which thankfully is around 7-8 hours a night. But I could easily go for 10-12 hours if I had a choice.

During the week it will be around 6-7 hrs. Mostly 6 I guess depending on the time I go off to bed. Normally not before 1 or 2 oclock. During the weekends I can easily stretch it to 10-12 hrs a night. (wich is only saturdaynight haha!). Or the sun has to be shining really bigtime and I just have to get out of bed to enjoy its warmth haha

A fairly consistent 6 - 8 hours - I have a dog that demands walkies at 8.00am 7 days a week so she can go play with her gang - so sleeping in is just not an option for the next 13 years or so...

About the same, uni has completely destroyed my sleep patterns.

I've heard from my friends who have taken first year Psychology classes that lack of sleep won't diminish your physical capabilities, but it will indeed hamper your mental output the next day. It's kind of ironic how people will stay up to get more done whereas a full night of sleep will let them get it done the next day without having to push it towards the late evening.

Most of what I do from 11pm to 1am is stare at the computer. I usually never even have anything to do during those hours; I call it relaxing. I usually go to school for about 12 hours (classes, studying and homework), so I do all the fun things when I could be sleeping. Thing is that it's not a hard decision to stay up, but it is quite near impossible to stay awake during the day without coffee. What are the rest of you even doing until 4am?

Weekdays: about 7 hrs (10:30 to 5:30) - I'd go to bed at nine, but prime time t.v. shows i.e. heroes, scrubs, csi, etc. keep me from doing so.

Weekends: 10+ hrs - it's the normal teenage thing
