This place decimated my wallet...

Hehe...in order...

1. Grado SR60 (but wanted something comfier)
2. Koss KSC-35 (but wanted something more detailed)
3. AKG 271 (shoulda stopped here)
4. Koss Portapro (for the wifey)
5. Senn590 (wanted something open and comfy)
6. Beyer DT770 (wanted to see what the

was all about)
7. AT A900 (starting to realize I have too many headphones)
8. Shure E2C (needed something for plane travel)
9. Senn HD280pro (needed something for the wifey for plane travel)

I think I'm ok now...until Headphile's circumaural Grado mod comes out...then I might have to try some 225s or 325s...

At the moment, I have an old pair of closed circumaural Aiwas (crap), a slightly newer pair of sony earbuds (ok for cheap), and my E2Cs. Hopefully some MS-1s soon! (Someone sell me yours!)

I've got three:

First: Ety. ER-4P and converter cable - Great super portable and inconspicuous canal phone - incredible isolation and detail. Start of the journey down the slippery slope.

Second: Grado SR-225 w/ Vwap mod. pads - Fuller bass, and the great Grado 'rock your @ss off' sound. Very little isolation, so the 'people sneaking up on you' feeling is substantially reduced as compared with Etys.

Third: Senn. HD-25-1 (soon to have velour pads and a DIY recable job). Really nice sound, and substantial but not extreme isolation. Great portable cans - perhaps indestructable AFAIK. A nice choice kinda nicely in the middle of the previous two in very many ways.

I don't think I'd ever get rid of any of these - they each fit a particular niche so well.

If I ever got another pair of cans to 'add to the stable', I suppose it would be something really fine and high end - something with a great soundstage, etc. Not really looking right now though - plenty happy as it is.

(...hides wallet...)

In order of preference:

HD600 (but soon to leave?)
600smile.gif
(Home for everything else)
ATH-W100 (Home for acoustic guitar and other acoustic music)
SR-80 (Home for Jazz, Classical)
MDR-D66SL "eggos"
eggosmile.gif
(Portable)

I owned the AKG K271s but sold them to buy the W100s. I wish I had the AKGs back now (but not in place of the W100s

Before I knew about Head-Fi (spent about $110 on cans during previous 3+ years):
1. Senn MX500 earbuds
2. Senn PX100
3. Grado SR60

After Head-Fi ($450 on cans in 5 weeks):
4. Sony MDR-888LP earbuds (simply awesome for the price)
5. Senn HD595 (got it to see what the hoopla was about)
6. Grado SR225 (ordered yesterday... I realized that I prefer Grado sound)

+ cmoy to test the waters, and now waiting for my SR71 from Todd

1 - AKG K1000
2 - Sony SA5000
3 - Sennheiser HE60
4 - Grado HP2 in SR325 enclosure
5 - Sony V6
6 - Ety ERE6i
7 - Koss Porta Pro. It's cord is broken now. I think I should send it in for fixing.
8 - Panasonic earbud. I dont' know the model but i just tried it tonight on my new DIY amp and liked it so I'll add it here. I threw away this JVC clip on since the foam was disintegrating.

I own two good cans. THose would be my sr 60s and hd 580's. Though i am looking at getting another set. Right now im either thinking of getting some closed cans like the a900's or some canalphones like the ety 4p. Might want to upgrade my grados in the future. Ive been thinking of the 225s but im trying to convince myself not to spend more money on this stuff. this has kept me from upgrading my soundcard to the emu 1212.
